Baby excema (sp?!)

Diege · 30/04/2006 09:59

My dd (nearly 6 months) has really bad, weeping excema behind her knees and on chest (scratches till it bleeds). We have dr's appointment next week, but was wondering if anyone had any tips/advice re: treatment other than prescribed remedies Smile.
Thanks!
Dawn x

Loads, but please do a search for me in the allergy section - as I don't have time to write them all now - but have done in the past.

Did you find lots of good suggestions?

eidsvold · 03/05/2006 12:44

something that I found worked really well for dd2 - around that age was calendual cream from a health food shop.

eidsvold · 03/05/2006 12:44

oops typo - calendula

P45 · 03/05/2006 14:41

I think calendula´s good too.. Have the Welleda brand.

Poor little thing. Will your surgery give you an earlier appointment. Weeping can be a sign that the excema is infected and in this case creams can make the excema worse.

My sons excema gets bad this time of year, I think it's the pollen. If you think this is the case, it can be worth just gently washing her exposed skin when she's been outside.

in my experienc, take some time out and give him a nice warm bath..just water though, and then give him soem time withut any clothes on..maybe its the washing powder or the fibres..
then try something like calendula and just make hima bit more 'happy'. when my ds1 was really bad i just stopped everything and gave him a bath and something to drink an dhe stopped scratching for a while..good luck with the gp..and dont take the steriodla creams if you dont want to, dont feel bullied!!

I use something called soothe it cream for alvanatural..has worked wonders on DDs excema and if I stop using it excema is back in a couple of days so it is the cream.

epaderm is an excellent cream. take a bit on wet hands and lather in the hands like soap. it is a soap replacement as well as moisturiser. it traps water on the skin. out of the bath, 'lather' it as above and apply like a lotion. you can buy it over the counter but is also prescribed.

eczema that is weeping is infected and will improve quickly with a 1 or 2% hydrocortisone & antibiotic combination cream. only then will emollients be effective in keeping eczema at bay.

i also use aveeno as lotion out of the bath (use epaderm in the bath) on dd. must use it 2x per day or she breaks out.

good luck
