Sudden irregular periods??? What could cause this...

Ok I was wondering if anybody could help me, I have had a google but we all know that googling can give me 101 different possibilities.

Obviously I should go to my doc Confused but don't want to have to take time off work.

Anyway in short, I am not on any hormonal contraception, nor did i recently stop taking any hormonal contraception, and the irregular periods started July last year.

Had a short cycle (12 days) then another short one (16 days). Then my cycles have been anything between 25 and 33 (and counting, 33 today so five days late but I know I'm not pregnant).

I know this can be normal for some people but its never been for me, I have aways been regular, never shorter than 28 days and the most 31 days.

It's causing me a lot of anxiety every month wondering when I'm going to come on. I could go on to the pill to regulate my periods, but I first want to find out why.

I am worried that its the start of the peri menopause as I have other symptoms and my mum started hers in her 30s, but I'm in my late 20s so surely it can't be?

Has this happened to anyone else?Grin

A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days.

I would go and see the GP in the first instance, taking some time off work is not as important as getting the cause of this determined. BTW if the GP is unhelpful ask for a referral to a gynae.

Thank you.

I am just worried that his reply will be similar to yours about 'normal' when I know that it's not normal for me... If that makes sense?

I'm not very good at insisting and would just say 'oh good, thank you' and leave none the wiser! Grin

If it's not normal for you then def see the GP. Does your practice have any late evening appointments? Ours do Mon up to 8pm but don't know if this is unusual or not. If there's nothing you can think of to explain this irregularity (ie dieting and losing a lot of weight, stress or other illness) then you should see doc. He will be able to test hormone levels and other things that might be contributing. I don't think they will just dismiss your concerns.

Glad to hear you think I might be taken seriously.

I'm not sure about late appointments at my surgery but I'll check! Smile
