Flapping toenail. Should I try to cut it off or just leave it taped on?

I've got revolting big toenails, they are misshapen and have what appears to be an intractable fungal infection.
Anyway, last week, I managed to catch one with the sole of my shoe. It is, I think, hanging on by a bit of gristle. I keep putting micropore on to hold it in place. I've also been tipping beta dine down the end to fight infection.
So, the question is - yank it off or leave it to fall off itself?

I don't think there is such a thing as a chiropodist where I live (Malaysia). I am erring toward a scalpel and a stiff gin.

Cut it off much better than catching it on something and causing more damage

There will be someone locally who can do this for you. Do you have someone you can ask?

If not, then you're going to have to bite the bullet and cut it off yourself, aren't you?

Is the whole nail lose or have you ripped part of it?

My professional advice is always get it seen by a professional!! but if that is not possible then .......... sharp nail scissors and trim it off as much as you can without cutting the viable skin holding the last bit on. Leaving it flapping about is asking for trouble as you can catch it on anything ie bedding, footwear etc and that can cause more damage. You can try to continue to strap it with micropore and wait for it to fall off naturally which it almost certainly will but this could take months. As fot the fungal infection, it is really hard to get rid of and can take 2-3 years. Fresh air and sunlight is a good start as is daily dose of tea tree oil.

Good luck
