Oil pulling, have you tried it?

I came across this quite by accident when googling something else. I'd never even heard of it?

I have problems in my mouth. Mainly to do with sinuses and an impacted wisdom tooth. So I thought I may as well give it a go as can't do any harm?

I started yesterday and did it today too. You do it on an empty stomach so I did it as soon as I got up. It's recommended for 20 minutes but I only did 10 each time. I did sleep better last night but it isn't supposed to really make a difference until at least a few days so may have been a coincidence? I'm going to keep doing it for a month.

It has allsorts of health benefits apparently? I know heart disease and gum disease are related. Oil pulling is supposed to help with so much more though.

Has anyone tried it or at least heard of it?

Article here. There's a lot online and even books on it.

I've never read such bollocks - although I am tempted to give it a whirl for my blocked up nose.
Not sure I could manage to keep that much oil in my mouth for that length of time though.

Sounded bollocks to me too. But when you read up on it more it makes sense.

My teeth are actually cleaner and whiter. Even sceptical dp said so.

You can keep the oil in as you only gently swish it, doesn't have to be vigorous. I go on the laptop and put a timer on my phone. You could start with a few minutes and work up to it.

I'm going to get the organic coconut oil as it's supposed to have healing properties?

It can't do any harm, if I waste a bit of time then it's at least an experiment, and at best beneficial to my health.

Curious how are you getting on with this?

IndigoBarbie · 24/02/2013 22:09

Hi, I'd like to know how you've been with this too?
I recently found out that teeth can and do re-mineralise themselves, however an additive in most toothpastes stops this from happening - glycerin.
I've just started to read about calcium bentonite clay (fuller's earth) and that it can help to remineralise the teeth. I've also just read about a lady whose gums started to grow back from receding whilst she brushed with coconut oil :)

Complete bollocks.

I am sitting here reading this with a mouth full of coconut oil. Have not gagged much to my surprise!
