My DS (4 months) had what I thought was terrible nappy rash but the doctor has told me it is thrush and has prescribed canestan cream. I have checked his mouth and can't find any white stuff there but he does have a real problem with b/feeding (and always has). He just seems very uncomfortable and comes on and off all the time. I never had this problem with my older child. Could he have oral thrush as well? If so, how do I find out? I have no symptons but I know that I need to be treated as well if he does have it. My doctor loves prescriptions - eg I went in with the rash and came out with two prescriptions for cradle cap which has never bothered me and which I didn't raise! - so I'm sure he would be happy to prescribe stuff for oral thrush but I don't want to treat ds for something he doesn't have.
Also I know that thrush is a nightmare to get rid off. My doctor has told me that I shouldn't use the cream for more than 3 weeks (hope it clears up by then). Any tips for keeping it away or will I just have to keep using the cream until he's out of nappies and is it bad to keep using the cream? We use cloth nappies at the moment but I change them very frequently and wash at 60C.
