I've had a horrible cough since Monday. It's dry and sore and my chest feels tight and full of stuff. It hurts to cough from my throat down into my chest - almost like it's burning. My arms and armpits and neck also ache.

I've been trying to ignore it as i havent had a temperature but it's started going up this morning. Not high, but a lot higher than usual for me. I had pneumonia 14 years ago and I guess I'm worried that this is getting worse not better. I have a meeting this afternoon and evening which I cannot miss.

When do I stop ignoring it and see my GP? I guess if I'm not literally bed-bound it can't be that bad - right??

Go and see your GP. It is not a waste of time.

Elibean · 07/02/2013 10:36

You stop ignoring it today (you've already started by posting here Smile) and go and see your GP.

Could turn into pleurisy, or pneumonia, and not worth it - go see your GP today!

Oh - and as for not bed bound, you know thats not relevent, don't you? My sister had walking pneumonia. The quicker you treat it the less of a problem it will become.

poor thing...we all had something similar around new year. It went on and on.

But I think it was just a virus. Keep an eye ont temp, I went back tothe doctor after about 2/3 weeks of it and got some antibiotics as it was starting to turn into a chest infection.

Hope you feel better soon.

TanteRose · 07/02/2013 10:37

Sounds pretty serious to me

Go and get it checked out

fatsatsuma · 07/02/2013 10:38

Thanks YouOldSlag. Why do you say that?

Oh ok lots of people agree Blush
I suppose I would say see your GP if I was advising someone else. But it's just not convenient...

I said that because usually when people hesitate to go and see a GP its because they don't want to bother them or it might be trivial.

If you've had pneumonia in the past and your temp's going up, just get checked out so you can get peace of mind.

it's much better to do that than take medical advice from an internet forum even though we are all brainy and clever! Smile

Thanks, I know you're right. I'm just being silly because getting to the GP is going to be a headache and posting about it on MN is allowing me to procrastinate a bit Grin

I have decided to give it one more day and if I'm still getting worse tomorrow morning I will make an appointment. Painkillers are enabling me to get through each day so I can still do what I need to this afternoon. Thanks again for pandering to my silliness

Thanks to everyone who kindly took the time to answer my question yesterday.

I did go to the GP this morning, who thinks it is probably a virus (same as yours by the sound of it Rooneyisalwaysmoaning as it may last for 2-3 weeks Shock) but he's given me a prescription for some ABs to use if my temperature starts to go up or I feel worse.

Think I'm going to use the prescription as my temperature is going up. And I feel cr*p.
