Gilberts syndrome?

ChocolateCoins · 31/01/2013 11:40

I've just phoned the doctors for my blood results and was told by the receptionist that I have gilberts syndrome, but the doctor can't ring me to explain until Tuesday.

Obviously I had a quick google but just wanted to hear from other that have it. Also I'm pregnant, is that going to affect me/baby in any way?

Sorry one more question, I've been getting dizzy, racing heart and breathlessness when I stand up, is this related to GS?

Its perfectly normal. I have it too, my GP said loads of people have it, its not a thing at all really and he didn't even like telling people they had it because it caused unnessesary worry.

Its doesn't even have any symptoms AFAIK

There is a gs website-really supportive. Some people can have symptoms but my dh doesn't. I think it helps if you reduce alcohol and eat healthily (food affects my husbands results more than booze). Don't worry as any symptoms can usually be managed.

I have it as well. I don;t know if there are varying degrees of it (interesting what red said about sometimes having symptoms), but in my case all it means is that my liver enzymes occasionally get a bit raised (not to any significant level). They think it happens when people get run down, tired, or when they fast. No one knows why. So this can mean that it skews blood test results a bit (especially if you are tired, run down, not well, or have fasted in order to have it done!). No one flagged it as anything to be concerned about when I was pregnant, so I'm pretty sure there's nothing for you to worry about (if it was a worry, they'd be telling you to go to hospital, not saying to expect a phone call sometime on Tuesday!).

As for the dizziness, etc, I had that so much when I was pregnant and I think it varied according to how far along I was (bit hazy). Might be that? But if you are worried about it, maybe give your MW a quick call?

Thanks for the replies. Reassuring to know it's not anything to worry about. It just sounded a bit scary as I'd never heard of it before.

Ill get on to the midwife about the dizziness ect.
