HI,

I have no idea, but my gut feeling would be that it's maybe the start of the menopause (sorry). I'm not there yet myself, but i think periods can go abit wobbly for a few years leading up to it. I would see your gp if you are worried, which you clearly are.
i expect someone who knows what theyr'e talkking about will be along in a minute!

Hi youfhearted, sorry that you are experiencing this, it sounds awful.
I haven't experienced this myself, but as I am of your vintage (46) I have a couple of friends who experienced similar things.

I think it is a good idea to see your GP to rule out certain things and to get treatment. You don't have to put up with a month long bleed.

One of my friends had a hysterectomy after consistent bleeding as they found she had two large fibroids.

My other friend is going through this right now. She has seen the doctor who has put her on progesterone tablets which has helped lighten the bleeding, and she will see a specialist (consultant) about it soon to find out what is causing it.Though her GP told her it is likely to be perimenopause.

I hope it can be sorted out for you soon.

thanks, am not happy with this month, still ongoing, bleed.
not keen on surgery, but as long as there are no other possible worries, i might have to put up with it,

Yes, you should get it checked out.

At any age, sudden change to menses needs investigation. There are many benign causes which can be treated. And even if it proves to be 'just' normal menopausal changes, there may be treatments available which will make it more liveable with.
