tonsilitis - maybe it hurts to swallow.
is she at least drinking and hydrated?
is she eating anything at all.
sorry to ask more questions - just wondering what else could be the cause
if it was teething, then putting loads of teething gel on the back of her gums before eating would help. - Oh and it can also numb a sore throat if swallowed.
will she let you shine a torch down ther troat to have a look?

I am very sure she is not ill, she is as happy as larry, I have tried giving calpol before a meal, but nothing is working, if I feed her she will eat, but otherwise she just holds it in her mouth, and she is drinking fine, but keeps the last bit of juice or water in her mouth.

Sorry then never seen this before unless in a tiny baby.
has anything happened that she might be upset about and seeking attention?

waterfalls · 24/04/2006 12:10

No, nothing unusual has happened, she held her juice in her mouth this morningat 8am, finally spat it out 40 minutes ago, so I gave her a biscuit, as dt2 was having one, and that has now been in her mouth for 30 minutes.

No answers either but my DD does this quite a lot. She is 15 months and the 2 most common reasons (I think) she does it for is that she is full. I still have to feed her most of the time and she will keep opening her mouth for food before I've realised she's doing the hamster thing again. Other reason is she is thirsty. She eats slowly and I probably give her the next mouthful too soon. I sometimes have to resort to scooping the whole lot out, persuading her to drink and then she may eat a bit more.

Oh, she also does it with things like apple. She takes a big bite and we find it in her mouth an hour later Shock

My eldest did this for a while every time I gave her peas. She used to love them then decided she wouldn't eat them. I said she had to have one forkful which she would take but sit with it in her mouth forever. I ignored her and she'd go about like that and get in the car and still have them an hour and a half later. I'm afraid it doesn't sound like she doesn't like the juice or the biscuit, I just thought I'd share the crazy experience.
