Who removes cradle cap?

Why? I know it doesn't look nice, but does it get worse? Does it eventually go anyway? If you remove it does it come back? My ds has it but he's only 8months old and already needs his 3rd haircut, it's so thick and long. S, his cc is well hidden. It's not bad anyway, just in areas on the very top of his head. If ever I loosen some, a good patch of hair comes off too, I just wondered if it was worth bothering about?

Olive oil
Massage in andleave overnight.

bramblina · 23/04/2006 22:21

But it really makes his hair terribly greasy, then I have to wash it well and it just strips it, at the mo I only need to shampoo once a week if needed. Should it be removed then?

Nah
Just pick it off then.
Lots more fun. Grin

Shock He may end up bald! I'd rather play games with him. Removeing cc is v. time consuming. Or eat chocolate. Thanks anyway!

Olive oil then comb it off. Its very theraputic. I lurrrrve doing it and am itching to do it in any baby I see with it. I was almost wishing mine would get it more often. Hmmmmmmmm

Bladee · 23/04/2006 22:29

HV said if left in leads to probs later in life......eh? anyway - I agree with the olive oil & comb. Nit comb works really well! I was shamed into removing it by DS's barber!!!!!

misdee · 23/04/2006 22:32

my younger sister had terrible cradle cap until her early teens. best removed when young, she was teased abut it. in the end my mum slavvered her head in vasaline and then combed it out.

mairimac · 24/04/2006 11:07

I used johnson's baby oil on my baby's cradle cap. I rubbed it in to his scalp neat and then left it like that over night. The next day used a baby brush to brush out loose bits and continued the ritual everynight and it was gone in 3 days.

Kelly1978 · 24/04/2006 11:09

I really wouldn't put Johnsons on it - it's very perfumend and may irritate or make it worse. Don't pick it off enither, my dd was bald for ages cos I tried that. Grin I found olive oil helped a bit, but eventually they jsut grew out of it.

mazzystar · 24/04/2006 11:14

there is a shampoo that you can get for it, Dentinox. i'm usually one for natural remedies etc but my DS had lots and lots of really curly fine hair and olive oil was jsut a disaster, couldn't get it out.

the shampoo sounds evil but it really worked

Flamesparrow · 24/04/2006 11:17

If they have a decent amount of hair, the nitty gritty nit comb gets it out a treat! Grin

Flamesparrow · 24/04/2006 11:17

When hair is wet...

panicpants · 24/04/2006 11:19

I thought cc would go on it's own, but it sounds as if it won't.
Ds has a patch but really don't want his to lose any hair as it's really fine.
Can you get the shampoo from boots?

Piggiesmum · 24/04/2006 11:28

You should be able to get in Boots. Any half decent chemist or supermarket should have it. I got ours a Sainsbury's. Only used it twice but it's made a big difference already

SoupDragon · 24/04/2006 11:36

Both DSs had this and it did just dissappear, I certinaly never did anything.

And I think Dentinox is a teething gel, not a cradle cap shampoo!

mazzystar · 25/04/2006 09:12

sounds like a mouthwash but it really is a shampoo. i'm sure it would have eventually cleared up if i'd left it though.

gothicmama · 25/04/2006 09:14

dentinox make lots of diff things for babies from colic cure (amazing) to cradle cap shampoo ( also very good)dd still uses it as perfumed shampoos seem to bring cc back

hunkermunkfish · 25/04/2006 09:14

It's both, SD. Have used both - they both work ime!

milward · 25/04/2006 09:16

just left the cc & it just went away. My dd3 who's nearly 3 still has abit but it causes no probs.

anniebear · 25/04/2006 10:56

My sister picked her dd off, she was so fed up with it, could never get rid (9years ago now, shes 11!!)

so she picked it off!!! dd had a red head!!! but it never came back lol

Blackduck · 25/04/2006 10:58

I left it and it eventually disappeared - can't remember how old ds was when it had finally all gone...

fastasleep · 25/04/2006 10:59

Oh god picking it off is like picking off the world's biggest scab it's fantastic!!

anniebear · 25/04/2006 10:59

lol lol Grin

lusciouslynda · 25/04/2006 14:11

My DD had it a lot as a baby. Dentinox was great.
She is now 3 and is getting it again so I am off to buy Dentinox.
Does anyone know what causes it?

ps - picking it off!! YUK!!!
