Varicose Veins - trreatable or not?

I´ve had them for nearly 20 years but I´ve just noticed they´re much worse; I won´t be able to wear a skirt this summer they are so hideous, never mind go in the pool! I´ve never mentioned them to a doctor, what can be done about them? Can I have an operation to get rid of them? It´s only one leg, the other is fine. Has anybody had any experience of different treatment options? I will go private if necessary.

You have to have them stripped I believe. A bloke at work had this done and only had a couple of weeks off work

A friend of mine had hers stripped a couple of years ago - said it was mildly uncomfortable for a few days and was more disgruntled to have to wear sexy surgical stockings for two or three weeks than she was about the pain! She had it done on the NHS, waited about three months for her appointment, and was really pleased with the end result.

My friend had both legs done at the same time and was only in as a day case - it took about two hours, and she was home by mid-afternoon.

WOW! I´ll get myself off to the doc´s then! Can´t believe it will be so fast, even if recovery takes a while! Wish I´d had it done over hte winter now! Thanks ladies!
