I can't sleep because I panicing that I have cancer.

I have thought that I may have piles for a while now. Have had a little blood when wiping and felt a bit uncomfortable round my bum (sorry tmi!) but I'm a idiot and I've been ignoring it because I'm embarrassed about going to the Drs. But this evening when I was having a bath, I had a feel and it feels really weird around my anus and there is a large and hard lump in the space in between my anus and vagina. It's hard to explain...it's not exactly a lump but more like the gap between my anus and vagina is swollen and is being pushed outwards, if that makes sense. At first I thought it was definitely piles, then maybe an abscess/fistula but the more I read the more I'm convinced that I have anal cancer or colon cancer. I'm terrified. I am 23 and had a baby almost 2 years ago, generally healthy if a little overweight.

I know there's nothing I can do apart from ringing the Dr tomorrow but I'm so scared that there's something really wrong and I've just been ignoring it. I just wanted to write that down.

I'm not a medical person but I doubt very much that you have cancer. Go to your doctor ASAP and put your mind at rest. I know it's a bit embarassing but it's nothing they've not seen before and if you've had a baby then it's nothing you've not had looked at before either!
If there is something wrong then the sooner you get it looked at the sooner it can be sorted.

Thanks for replying, little. I am just working myself up into a state about it, which is silly as there's nothing I can do until I see the Dr. I'm just so pissed off with myself for letting it get to this stage, if I'd gone to the Dr as soon as I started worrying, all would probably be fine!

Sounds like a pile or a prolapse. Best to be checked but I'm sure it will turn out ok. See a nice female Dr rather than a male one if you can. My make Dr is lovely but I always see a female one for smear tests as I feel less embarrassed.

Could be a Bartholin?s cyst
www.nhs.uk/conditions/Bartholins-cyst/Pages/Introduction.aspx

It might need surgical drainage which is given the wonderful name of marsupialization.

HeeBeeGeebies · 26/01/2013 18:02

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think it's a cyst because its definitely hard, not squishy. Also the mass is definitely inside. Eeurgh, it sounds so gross!

I've done some reading and it seems like it could be a prolapse of some sort. I feel like I've got pressure between my bum and vagina basically. :-(

I've couldn't get a drs appointment til Monday the 4th. Which is really irritating as I just want to get it seen to ASAP. I might ring at the beginning of the week to see if there's been any cancelations.

The bleeding may be nothing to do with it - that can easily be caused by a small cut, also are you sure the lump isn't just, well, whatever is inside your bottom? If you have a rectocele or similar it can feel like the poo is in the wrong place iyswim.

Please don't panic. It's really likely to be easily explained by something totally benign.

HeeBeeGeebies · 26/01/2013 18:13

Rooney, I've just read this en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rectocele and I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I did have a small tear when my son was born so that could explain in. I thought I'd got away lightly in relation to his birth, but maybe not!

Well you can often sort these out with exercise apparently. I thought I had one after ds2 was born (now 5) but the dr didn't think so...I definitely had some changes down there, I think my vb stretched some muscles and so things were a bit odd for a while. But I guess with time it sorted itself out - just had third baby and everything seems roughly Ok.

See what the doc says, it could be very easy to sort out, whatever is causing it.
Take care x

Thanks Rooney. I think I knew not that long after giving birth that something wasn't quite right, I wish I'd done something sooner but for various reasons I decided to ignore it Hmm.

I just spoke to dp and feel a bit better, he was worried for me but reassuring too.

I doubt you have done any harm by not acting sooner - it may not have warranted anything being done sooner anyway. It may not even now Smile

Glad you have a supportive DP. Hope you get some answers.
