Hello. Just need some ideas on this really. My periods have ALWAYS been like clockwork and are NEVER late. My period was due on the 17th...and it is still not here! Pregnancy is 100% not possible. Anybody have any idea why this would suddenly happen? Getting quite worried.

Thanks xx

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 09:56

stress can cause tham to be late sometimes but tbh if your usually quite regular i'd head to the doctor. if you don't mind me asking are you saying your not pregnant bacause you're on birth control, because there are plenty of women here who'll tell you that birth control can fail so maybe you should consider a preg test? (sorry if i've just put my foot in it btw)

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 10:01

Pinktulips - :-) No i am saying I am DEF not pregnant as there is no way i could be...unless it is an immaculate conception! lol. Basically have not had sex for a LONG time.

I recently missed 3 periods. Still not sure why.
I started using Agnus Castus which seems to have re started them and I am now regular again.

Might be worth going to see your GP and asking for blood tests, although they don't normally do these until you've missed 2 or 3.

I also got a referrel to a gynaecologist which was re assuring as they scanned me/did bloods and all was normal.

Sometimes thyroid problems/hormone imbalance etc can cause this to happen.

helsi · 23/04/2006 10:02

I think the only way 100% would be guaranteed is by not having sex - thats the message I got from you tiasmummy.

Like PinkTulips says it could be stress but might be best to consult GP if like you say you are sooo regular and are worried at all.

How long ago did you have your child? childbirth can make them more irregular following a recent birth.

pebblemum · 23/04/2006 10:05

I missed a period in january and although i didnt think i was pregnant i still had to do 2 tests to make sure. The following month everything returned to normal even though it lasted longer and was heavier than usual(making up for the missed one), now though i am back to normal. My doctor said that this can happen sometimes and is either caused by stress or just plain annoying hormones. As long as it isnt a regular occurance there is usually nothing to worry about but if it will put your mind at rest get it checked out.

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 10:08

My daughter is not 20 months old Helsi. Happy mum .. speaking of hormone imbalances...I STILL have hair loss but the doctors cannot find anything wrong with me!! Done blood tests twice and they came back completly normal. They checked for thyroid etc but it was all ok. Wondering if the two are connected now...maybe not. Is REALLY strange to still be losing more hair than normal when my daughter will be two in august!

Blush sorry

if you don't get it in the next week or so i'd head to the doctor then, i remember being told when i was younger that for some women their period stopping can be the first sign of being sick, no harm in reassuring yourself

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 10:09

Pebblemum - I will def go to the GP. The weird thing is I can still feel the cramps I usually get before I have my period...just nothing to show for the pain as yet. Weird..

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 10:09

Whoops! Helsi I mean my daughter IS 20 months old. Sorry.

pebblemum · 23/04/2006 10:22

I had the cramps too. i know how worrying it is when something like this happens. I hope it turns out to be something simple like it was for me and everything returns to normal next month. fingers Xed for you.

Regarding hair loss my ds2 is 2years old and i still lose a lot of hair on a daily basis. Luckily not enough to cause bald patches but enough to be a pain in the arse. I have to empty my hairbrushes out after every use and i always find hairs everywhere. Is your hair long? Mine is just below my shoulder and i think that is why i notice it so much.

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 10:45

Pebblemum - yeah my hair is quite long. A few inches beyond shoulder length. Its so annoying that the docs cant find anything wrong. Feel like my hair is gonna be coming out like this forever. The norm is for it to stop when your baby is 9 months to 1 year old. But I guess there are always exceptions to the norm right? I seem to have half the volume of hair i used to.

OP posts:
pebblemum · 23/04/2006 11:02

Mine feels like that too. I know when you are pregnant your hair gets thicker and after giving birth you lose the excess but surely our hair didnt change that much for it still to be falling out 2yrs on Grin I get fed up with finding my hair everywhere especially when I hoover and it gets caught on the brushes at the bottom.

I've often wondered if there was a supplement we could take that would help it but as im not that keyed up on that sort of thing i wouldnt know where to start and hate the thought of wasting money on something if it doesnt work.

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 11:06

pebble - I tried taking hair and skin tablets from Holland and Barrett but got fed up after the first day because the tablets were MASSIVE! lol! Just gave that idea up pretty quick. I sometimes dont understand how I have ANY hair left on my head at all. Its worse being a black female as our hair does not grow as fast as caucasian (is that how u spell it?) hair does. Was lucky that it was long and thick to begin with but really dont wanna have to to shopping for wigs!

alexsmum · 23/04/2006 11:14

my hair is still coming out and ds is 2.6.
as i was reading this i ran my hand through and a handful came out.
i would go and get it checked out.

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 11:34

Alexsmum - I have but the docs cant find anything wrong with me! Weird huh?

Tiasmummy I had an overactive thyroid 12 years ago and the first sign I had that something was up was that my periods stopped, and my hair started falling out in masses. Insist again and again that you want it checked again, :). it took 9 months for my periods to return, even after I started the medication.

Tiasmummy · 23/04/2006 22:13

Wannabe - Thanks for that info :-) I will have it checked again when I go back to the GP. X
