no question about it, small, wiggling, the width of thread. definitely a thread worm. is there anything we can do before getting to a doctors on Monday? I am totally freaked out by this. I'm off to have a bath in bleach.

You can get the treatment for threadworms over the counter at a pharmacy no real need to go to GP ( and you can get that tomorrow!!)

Miaou · 22/04/2006 21:35

Put her in pants so she doesn't scratch her bottom and suck her fingers.

Clean sheets/pjs in the morning.

Don't share bath towels.

Treatment is usually one dose (eg Vermox, 5ml), repeated a fortnight later. Put it on the calendar so you don't forget the second dose.

PMSL hat woman! at your comment about bathing in bleach! I am not sure that will help. Shouldn't the bleach go inside your body?

Will DG be reported for suggesting a fellow Mner drinks bleach?

just searched the archives and know we are not alone. dd has got pants on, just dragged her out of bed to wash her hands, poor thing. I haven't told her. dh thinks she would be fascinated. I think she would be gutted. I really can't get rid of that image...I wiped her bum for her and thought I saw something but couldn't tell if it was just a piece of dry skin that had rubbed off, or a piece of loo roll. then - no question - a big wiggly one came out. Grim mcgrim of toal grimmness.

I'll be knocking on Boots' door first thing in the morning for family's worth of that medicine.

P.S. I belive you all have to be treated just in case you already got them (pets included)

bramblina · 22/04/2006 21:47

Dr Srah Jarvis on Jeremy Vine said a couple of weeks ago cut their nails very short to minimise the risk of re-infection.

bramblina · 22/04/2006 21:47

Dr Sarah Jarvis even

Been there - several times! Only with dd, and we never told her, because I thought she'd freak - as it was, I did on her behalf!

She had bad stomach pains with it though.

Ovex asap - I used to keep some in, just incase!

Horrible little blighters!

NotQuiteCockney · 22/04/2006 21:51

Pets don't need to be treated, you can't infect your pets, they can't infect you. Different species of worms.

But all the humans in the family need to be treated.

Passionflower · 22/04/2006 21:55

Beat me to it about pets nqc.

I told DD's and found it a good way in ensuring that they wash their hands properly. They are scupulous about hand washing after the loo now that they know not doing so can cause worms that wiggle out of their bottoms. Grin
