Helo

Ds has temperature of 38.7c, seems a tiny bit whingy but not too bad, I have given him calbrofen about 1/2hr ago just as I put him to bed in just pj bottoms and a light sheet. I have heard u can give both calpol and calbrofen at the same time but to alternate them.......but should I give gim the calpol now do you think just before he drops off just to be on the safe side?

Or do you have to alternate them perfectly IYSWIM?

Thanks:)

If he has a high temp. and you aren't sure why don't you ring up the NHS hotline, they will confirm what you can give next, and will offer some good advice.

I was told to give then at slightly different times, but one of my doctors in the practice said that you can give certain types of medicine at the same time. If you aren't sure, give them a call.

Ibuprofen should be given 6-hrly, paracetamol 4-hrly - so you can give them both at once initially but then repeat Calpol after 4 hours, then the ibuprofen one after another 2, then Calpol again after another 2, and then both after another 4, if you're still with me.

Yes thanks ever so much I will give him some calpol now then while he's still awake so I dnt disturb him and make him feel even worse lol

Thanks again:)

This was almost my post last week! My son was just the same with a very high temp, and the doc suggested ibuprofen every 4 times a day, with calpol in between. I ended up having to write it down, as I was getting panciky about how much he'd had. when I took him to the docs the next day it turned out he had tonsillitis. worth having a look in your son's throat, as apparently this always causes a v high temp. felt better once I knew what was wrong with him. hope he's soon feeling better - try not to worry too much x

i was getting panicky, not panciky!

Well I started getting a sore throat last night, then today I feel achey and shiverey but my skin feels warm but according to the thermometer I'm 36.7c so I thought maybe he has what I have but maybe not?

Another thing the doc mentioned is that toddlers often have a higher temp than us, particularly in the evenings. So a temperature of 38 could be quite normal - I've decided to take DS's temperature on a normal evening, just to see what it is. I think the main thing is to keep him as cool as possible (which seems really cruel, doesn't it?) and keep giving the calpol etc.

Had this with dd3 a few weeks ago temp got to 40 which freaked me out She had a temp for a week and was on antibiotics due to a bad ear infection in both ears she did'n't show any signs of her ears hurting but gp said ear infections can often cause high temp as well.
