Hi, my dd (2.10) was sick a few days ago, vomited in the morning and has had diahoria since really. She seemed fine this morning and ate a good braekfast then went to nana's house for a few hours. When i picked her up at 4.30 my mam said she couldn't stay awake. (She never sleeps in the day but did the day she was sick). I brought dd home and she didn't want to eat and said she had a headache. Her normal bedtime is 7.30/8 p, but she fell asleep at 5.30, i got her into her p'j's and she was sitting on my knee with her eyes closed and i have to admit, i woke her as i was worried. She is now in bed. Do you think it's the bug tired her out or should i be worried????
I have checked her for rash.....none!

Don't want to worry you further but I'd phone GP as to me it doesn't sound 'right' for her to say she has a headache at such a young age. I suspect GP will give the "it's a virus" line but I'd get her check just to put your mind at rest.
Besides the cold night air she'll probably wake up and full of beans because she out in her PJ's

Does she still say she has a headache? If you are worried then you can always go to casualty and insist on being seen. I hope she's OK.

Well i called NHS Direct and they went through everything and then asked when she'd last had a drink, i left her with my mam at 12 and she'd had a drink at 10am. She'd also had a wee at 6am. My mam told me she hadn't eaten or drank and as she was so sleepy when we got home at 5.15 i didn't make her eat dinner and was so worried about the sleepiness i didn't get a drink! So, what with the diahoria, she was dehydrated and that probably caused the headache.
I woke her up and she's had water and apple juice over the last few hours and a peice of toast, i think she's fine now.
Now, i'm not!! I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO negligent! How could i not have realised all this? I know diahoria means they need to keep fluid intake up! Feel very upset with myself. But dd is o.k, thats the important thing
NHS Direct is fantastic and the woman was great!

I have always found the NHS direct line very helpful, and always very friendly, better than the doctors. I'm glad your dd's alright now, that's the main thing, don't feel bad though.

Angeliz you are not negligent! It is so easy to miss something as simple as that when you are worried, don't worry about it! Hope you dd is soon much better xx

Angeliz · 14/01/2004 21:47

thanks everyone for the reassurance.
I'm sure i'll still feel guilty but at least i realised (or was helped along by NHSDirect), before she got bad!
Just can't beleive i didn't realise thats all!

For once NHS direct were of some use! Amazing. Glad it's worked out Angeliz. If you were really a negligent mum you would never have called them in the first place.

thanks.
