Very odd Hobbit like feet

My nephew has hobbit feet. He is generally a size 8-9 but they are so wide he has to wear a size 11 wide fitting.
Obviously they do not fit properly and his feet slip around in them but we can't find anywhere that sell shoes so odd shaped. My dsis did look into bespoke shoes but they are around £300 a pair and way out of their price range.
Could he get anywhere by going through his GP?

Maybe a referral to a chiropodist. Don't they make shoes for people with club feet so they must be able to accommodate a very weird sized foot

Any suggestions gratefully received as he is starting to admit his feet hurt alot

Apparently Nike tend to fit wider than other sports footwear, might be worth looking at some of those.

He is 21. We have looked at places like Jacamo and MandM direct which are places for larger men, xxxxxxl and the like, they didn't have anything which went near without getting shoes which were way too long. Will have a look at the companies you mentioned though

Hobbit feet ???

Ha !!!

I called mine ducks feet ( thin at the heel and go out & out & out )

yes, I have them too Blush

For decades I put up with stuff like Clarkes 'H' fitting ( what damage they caused )

Last summer I found that this is not unusual in the U S of A and discovered the wonderful world of 4E and 6E fittings

2E is like an 'H' fitting, 4E is bliss and 6E is bliss in a deep shoe ( add insoles to taste )

Fitting & experience is everything - so try to not be tempted to buy over the web ( at least not the first time )

So nutmeg do you order direct from USA and how do you get them fitted if youare in UK?
Are they expensive? Dsis has looked into it before and said they would be too costly to either buy from abroad or get made specially

I think the first thing is to see that 4E has a hope of being wide enough.

I did this from a pdf template that I downloaded and printed ( can I find the link ? nooooo....! Sad )

Once I'd established that this was a possible runner I used the web for nearby shoe shops that might have what I needed.
Well, that was a waste of time !

Next step ( after a couple of weeks of reflection/plucking up courage ) was to phone the distributor of one brand that I had found.

I was put through to somebody who put me through to somebody - well you know - and at the end of it I was speaking to the MD Smile who said "we stock them and we sell them but nobody needs them so the retail trade dont want to know about them.....Why dont you come up to us & we will sell them to you if they fit."

3 days and 80 miles later I was there! I bought myself to foot heaven. Every morning, when I put on the shoes, I think of that day.

The shoes that I have are made by Propet ( a Canadian company ) and might have some drawbacks - no brown only buckskin etc - but whadda I care, they fit ).

Later I got a pair of Forester boots made by a company called Whelan in Ireland. They are 6E ( I use insoles in them ) They are great and really made very well. ( For me these are the key to life as I have to tramp the hills a lot. )

So far as cost go I think the shoes were around £50 and the boots £80. I'm very lucky that I can consider this a small price to pay for foot heaven.

Debs75 · 14/01/2013 21:10

Them prices are not too bad really, a lot more then I would pay for off the peg shoes but not the £300 or so my dsis is panicking about paying.
Dnephew is thinking they will look like dress type shoes and he is more of a relaxed skater boy type dresser.
I will google for a downloadable foot sizer so we can measure his feet. I suppose that would be a good start.

If 4E / 6E fit then he can go hunting for his style of shoe on the net.

www.kohlscorporation.com/ecom/valueadded/footwear.htm might be some help in sizing
