SophieBirkBirk · 09/01/2013 14:22

Tested in early December
T4 level was 22.0
TSH level was 4.40

Tested Monday
T4 level is 14.1
TSH level is 4.5

What do these mean?
Not due to see specialist until end of this month.
I know I was overactive, I'm weighing just over a 8 stone and doctor said I'm now underactive?

Looks like you're going hypo. Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies? Are you on any medication.

tillyandfriends · 09/01/2013 17:19

sophie was you on any medication for the overactive thyroid? I know sometimes you can go under whilst on the tablets, thats why you have to have regular blood tests.

digerd · 09/01/2013 17:29

When I was overactive, I had many symptoms. The weight just dropped off me despite me constantly feeling ravenous and eating high calorie foods. I ate so much, it saved me losing any more than - was 7.9 down to 6.3 < 5'2">.
I was put on Carbimazole to slow the Thyroid's production of Thyroxine, but was overdosed and went underactive - blew up like a barrel + 2 stone in 10 weeks, plus nasty HYPO effects.
What was your normal weight before the overactive Thyroid?

SophieBirkBirk · 09/01/2013 17:35

I'm 5'7 weigh about 8 stone.

I wasn't on any medication for my overactive, they told me I have to wait to see a specialist on 21st of this month.

They think my overactive was triggered by pregnancy in April but only started to improve last month but turns out it was going underactive.. they think that was due to my miscarriage on the 18th of last month

It's making ne really ll

It's making me really ill, I can way loads to not eating at all or sometimes I throw up everything i eat. Also its made me very weak, sometimes I'm unable to move from bed without assistance.

About 9and a half but was pregnant and went to 10 and a half at 23 weeks. Pregnancy ended badly, they think it was due to pregnancy but surely it should have gone down since April?

Yes, Thyroid problems can be caused by trauma, especially the overactive.
And at 5'7 - you are much too thin to be only 8 stone.
Being overactive makes you very anxious - I was paranoid, and my hands shook with nervousness. I also blew up over nothing and felt very hot and sweaty. My pulse rate was 160 sitting still - all Overactive symptoms.
It was in 1970 when eventually diagnosed, and being so young, I did not ask for any details of the T4/TSH, so do not know what it was.
But TSH under 5 is supposed to be within the normal range.

digerd · 09/01/2013 18:00

ps
I did not throw up at all? But I did become very weak and breathless, then my Thyroid swelled and my eyes bulged - it was then that GP diagnosed me.
And my periods stopped. Like most illnesses it does affect people differently

SophieBirkBirk · 09/01/2013 18:06

TSH used to be normal under 5 but apparently its 3 now.

I am very slim, collor and hip bones show badly. Thighs no where near touch anymore, it makes me feel so unattractive :(.

I went to gp about being sick they didn't say anything. But yet they don't say much often. im on the pill and waiting for period to come within 2 to 3 weeks. But my lasr one was very lighter than normal.

I loose my breathe so easily and get hot flushed.

Is your thyroid sorted now digerd?

OP posts:
digerd · 09/01/2013 18:15

You are most likely to be still underactive then, but not being able to keep food down is not in my experience and must be contibuting to your being much too thin.
Are you in UK? Some countries have different theories about FSH range.
So sorry about your recent miscarriage, you are going through so much at the moment.
Do you suffer from breathlessness? It took me ages to climb the stairs, and then collapsed onto my bed devoid of all energy for 20 minutes, until it returned.

digerd · 09/01/2013 18:21

4 years later I had the sub-total Thyroidectomy, which cured it all, and wished they had done it sooner and not messed about with the carbimazole, which was supposed to have normalised it but came back 18 months later.
Being hot and sweating are all symptoms of overactive.

SophieBirkBirk · 09/01/2013 18:22

Yes, im in the UK.
I suffer from breathlessness, that's how i feel now! It is so difficult to walk up the stairs, even on flat ground I struggle sometimes

OP posts:
SophieBirkBirk · 09/01/2013 18:23

I had overactive but its slowly fine underactive

OP posts:
digerd · 09/01/2013 18:27

Breathlessness and weakness were the advanced symptoms as I was very late being diagnosed, as GP said it was nerves. You should not exert yourself as putting a strain on your heart - I didn't realise that all those years ago, and kept on working full-time, until I was diagnosed.
Also had palpitations mainly in bed at night which were frightening.

digerd · 09/01/2013 18:34

ps
Your are most likely to be still OVERACTIVE , not underactive, as you are still so thin.
After my sis's last baby, she had no periods for months, so they gave her a Thyroid test and diagnosed HYPO, but she had no other symptoms, other than looking a little podgy in her face.

Zipitydooda · 09/01/2013 18:42

Have you looked up post-partum thyroiditis? I had this 3 times. It makes you go over-active then underactive then back to normal?

I hope you have good treatment soon, thyroid issues are so debilitating especially with little ones to look after.

Importantly, there is a link between thyroid conditions and miscarriage so it's definitely worth getting your thyroid sorted before another pregnancy. Sorry that you went through that too.
