Constipation & Bleeding

I didn't know if this was the right place to post but anyway I am 5 weeks post partum and have been suffering with constipation since day one which has resulted in extremely painful hemmorhoids(?). I was prescribed lactulose by my GP but that hasn't worked very well and I was also given cream by the midwifes whilst in hospital for piles but that hasn't helped either. Do I go back to my GP or is there nothing she can do? I don't want to waste their time but I also don't want to be in pain. Bowel movements are very painful and result in quite a bit of bleeding :(

As for bleeding I was just wondering if it is normal for me to bleed on and off quite heavily and sometimes lightly. I thought it may be my period but because I'm breastfeeding I don't know how likely this is.

I would go to the Dr just to be checked out. They might recommend Movicol for the constipation & a better cream on prescription for the piles. You could maybe speak to a pharmacist first & see of there is anything OTC you could try.

I spoke to a hv today and she mentioned movicol.. Booked an appointment with my gp for next week so hopefully she will prescribe something better! Hate being in this pain when I'm meant to be enjoying my chunk of a baby haha.

You could always try Laxido. It's like movicol, but also softens the stools so making them easier to pass (and cause less damage)

When I've had very bad piles, I've been told to take an anti inflammatory (like Ibuprofen) to help lessen the swelling.

Definitely see your gp - there are lots of lovely things that they can prescribe for you, and a pharmacist can really help in the meantime.
