full fat milk or low fat vit enriched

my dd is 15mths and gets constipated with full fat milk. so i have put her back on formula.
but upon analyzing full fat and low fat vit enriched plus calcium and folic acid the only difference seems to be the fat amt and calories . the low fat has more of everything bar those 2, are the calories the important bit?
and why is it not recommended for under 2's?

i tought it might ease the constipation and i could give up the formula.

It is the fat content they need. Children under 2 need the extra calories from full-fat products. Try yoghurts or from frais for the dairy instead

Fat is important for small children - most of our brains are made of fat (cholesterol, in fact!).
I am very surprised that the fat in milk makes your daughter constipated - there is a lot of fat in formula too.

maybe it isnt the fat in the full fat milk, its just that when i take her off it and after formula feeds she goes and its normal.

Friend says she was advised to put her over 2yo on semi-skim to ease a constipation problem... but agree with Aloha. Babies NEED fat. I think the usual figure is 40-50% of calories in the diet of a toddler under 2yo should come from fats. You may be able to edge towards 30-35% if the fats are long-chain fatty acids, but I'm fuzzy about that.
