Has anyone had an infected or sore caesaren scar?

I had my 3rd CS two weeks ago. It has been healing really well and the midwives have all it said it looks really good. However, the last couple of days there's been a little bit where it was weeping and is quite itchy. I've cleaned it and put a little bit of sudocreme on it but it's looking a bit red which is making me wonder if it's maybe infected now??
Do I go to the doc or will it just heal over again?

Glad you're going to docs!
Fortunately my cscar was fine but I am a District Nurse so wanted to help if at all possible?
Salt water is fine, shouldn't interfere with wound healing, it's what we always use to cleanse wounds with.
Iodine is great for infection but research shows that once infection is gone it can delay or prevent wound healing as it stops cells migrating across the wound.
Also agree that sudocrem probably has got bugs in the pot.
Gp may well give you ABs without swabbing wound - something generic which should clear it up, but if that doesn't work then might swab after this.

Thank you for that CCM... I wasn't sure if ti was something or just sore from the actual CS. This was my 3rd and the other two were fine, this one is definately taking longer to heal. Any ideas what they will do about the stitch? They won't re-stitch it will they?? (I'm not too keen on all things medical and a total wimp!!!

No they won't restitch now, would usually only contemplate that within 2-3 days of surgery.
Easier to let it heal by 'secondary intention', which basically means letting the wound knit itself back together rather than artificially closing it with sutures etc.

Also, if they did restitch it wouldn't help with healing as damaged/dead tissue needs to 'fall off' (techincal term!) in order for healing to occur.! Wink

Hi zephyrcat. I had a CS wound infection. It didn't hurt very much but it bled quite a lot suddenly. The dr removed the stitches and did not put new ones in. Actually I wish he had because it was creepy having a wound that was open like that. I had to go back to the hospital probably 5-6 times to have the dressings changed. After that I washed it out and redressed it at home. Good luck.

forgot to mention that I had to take a course of antibiotics too

zephyrcat · 19/04/2006 21:43

Ooh no! I hope he doesn't do that!!! This is my my 3rd but is the first one I've actually had the guts to look at!! The stitches are dissolvable ones so does that mean there won't be anything there to take out? (although I can see a bit of 'stitch' where it's come out.

God I'm pathetic!! lol Grin

Oh, I seriously hope that wasn't you that came to see my DP CaptainCavemansMummy and was terrorised by our puppy [gurning type emoticon]. If it was, I'm 4'9" with blonde hair and never drink in the Blacks. Ever.
Hope it turns out well ZC Smile

how is it now ZC?

the bit of stitching that's sticking out will fall out shortly, when the stuff inside has dissolved.

I went to the docs the next morning and saw the horrible doc of the surgery :( he said that it looks ok but has definately come open at one end. He left it as it was and said that need it to stay open now so that it can heal from the bottom up, ie from the inside outand that if it closed over now it would leave a gap which an absess could form in. Yuk!
He gave me a few days supply of anti biotics and I have to admit, that after the first few tablets it already feels better... not sure if that's psychological or not though! :)
