Could mould be making me ill?

We have a few tiles missing on our roof. Last winter I noticed the smell of mould in our attic. I took out all the stuff, cleaned and dried it out. I had colds and felt like my top lip was burning all winter.

It was fine all summer and then I got sick again in December. I went up to the attic and found mould on my suitcase and another wet patch on the roof.

I have had a horrible sinus infection, on antibiotics but still have that burning feeling on my top lip, now my throat is starting to burn.

I have the same guy coming back to fix the roof next week and ill get it dried out.

I sometimes get black gunk around the windows when it's been very humid.

Is this a mould illness or am I just a bit weak?

Definitely agree. Had similar in previous house, sinus infections became v entrenched. Other people said they sneezed on 5 mins of being in the house, ESP upstairs. Have move to a newbuilds and much much better. Good luck. Try antihistamine tabs in meantime as these helped me a lot.

Not you being weak.

This mould has made you ill.

The best way to prevent mould is to open windows every day, use extractor fans and repair anywhere damp is getting in or lingering - such as roofs, cracked wall tiles and windows. Once mould has formed bleach is the best way to get rid of it. ?There are biocides - a pesticide for fungus - that are effective. You do have to be careful with these as they in themselves can be dangerous to health.

Thank you, it's good to hear its not just me going a bit mad.

The roof man is coming tomorrow, the attic really smells of mould but I can't bring myself to stay up there long enough to find it. My sinuses have been really painful so I'd like them to get a bit better. I think once the roof is fixed then I need to put the dehumidifier up there and spray the place with anti mould stuff.

For the rest of the house I've used white vinegar all round the windows and had them open for at least an hour each day.

I'm on antibiotics for the sinus thing just now so not sure if I can have antihistamines with them. I'm looking up natural mould allergy remedies and there are quite a few. I'm on a zero tolerance mission for mould now.

My sister developed allergies to moulds (in her 40s, iirc) - they can make her feel really ill. Sinusitis symptoms, headaches, exhaustion, etc.

Try taking some antihistamine as suggested, she found some types helped.
