i am also intrigued and have some questions for anyone who uses one!

1, how well does it cope with HEAVY flow

  1. is that a tube out the bottom? doesn't it leak?
  1. how do you get it out?
  1. do you have to rinse it each time you empty it? how easy is that if you're out for the day?
Stylish · 16/04/2006 19:26

I'm curious too. My main question is how the hell does it go in?! It looks like it'll be fiddly

longwaytogo · 16/04/2006 20:18

right will try and answer your questions wrote it all once then lost it so here goes.

  1. Yes it does cope with heavy flow just need to empty it more regular, mine tends to leak on the first day but others dont find that problem.

  2. No its not a tube out of the bottom its a stem and its meant to be cut till comfortable its the bit your meant to get hold of to get it out but most people tend to chop it off completly

  3. To get it out you need to break the suction - squeeze, twist and pull

  4. yes you do need to rinse it out, some people take a bottle of water with them, alternatevly you could wipe it out and then give it a good clean the next time.

to get it in you fold it and sort of fold it again put it in and let go, then twist to make sure you have the suction.

Now I have a question for you how on earth do you get your teenage daughter interested mine is repulsed by the whole idea.

Now there are a few mooncup experts that i'm sure will be along in a minute

starlover · 16/04/2006 20:24

i'm liking it a lot. I never use tampons as they always leak and I really hate towels, so it looks ideal for me.

BUT, I do have v heavy flow and (sorry for TMI Blush ) I do pass lots of clots to start with too... so worried that it;d get too full and fall out or something! lol

Flamesparrow · 16/04/2006 20:30

Starlover - I'd say that for the first day you use it (if possible) try and stay at home (like potty training Wink). You will be able to work out how often you need to empty it then without having to worry about leaks etc.

I wonder what my DD will make of it when she is old enough to realise Grin

longwaytogo · 16/04/2006 21:01

It won't fall out if full I don't think as the suction would be there I think it would just leak but as said staying in sounds good for the first day at least.

starlover · 16/04/2006 22:57

hmmm i might try one... is it right you can send them back if you don't like it???

marthamoo · 16/04/2006 22:59

You can send it back starlover, but I only know one person who has...me (no shame Grin)

starlover · 16/04/2006 23:00

I think I might wait until I move house.

that may well be the oddest sentence I've ever posted on here! lol.
but atm we have separate bathroom and toilet which could be annoying!

NotAnOtter · 17/04/2006 20:43

is it 'comfy?'

OP posts:
pootlepod · 17/04/2006 20:47

Very comfy.

Starlover, why not leave a bottle of water in your loo during your period. Might ne cheaper than moving house just to use a mooncup Wink

kiskidee · 17/04/2006 21:09

just showed dh the mooncup.

response: uugh, couldn't they make it in something other than clear?

Katymac · 17/04/2006 21:10

Would he like flowers or stripes?

kiskidee · 17/04/2006 21:14

lol. he said 'hoops' with incrementations to know millilitres. (a civil engineer's answer)

marthamoo · 17/04/2006 21:15

\link{http://www.toolspot.co.uk/products/Domestic/Large%20Size%20Sink%20Plunger.jpg\They do it in orange too}

CarolinaMooncup · 17/04/2006 21:18

lol pootlepod!

It is deffo easier to have a handbasin to rinse it in (where do you wash your hands atm starlover??)

it is comfy, you can't feel it if it's in right, unlike tampons which IME tend to start sliding lower as they soak up more blood Blush

kiskidee · 17/04/2006 21:19

lol. he says if they do them in proper sizes, not just those little things, or is that a scaled down model.

CarolinaMooncup · 17/04/2006 21:24

psml Marthamoo Grin

I think you would prob need to saw a few inches off the stem on that one...

starlover · 17/04/2006 21:30

lol pootlepod!
atm I have to go to the bathroom to wash my hands afterwards

katyrocks · 17/04/2006 22:58

i looked at this yesterday - i like the idea of not paying for/disposing of tampons for financial/environmental reasons, but i'm not sure that i could deal with emptying it. The idea makes me feel sick. how did you cope with a cup full of you-know-what? and can you go swimming with it?

lol marthamoo

Cristina7 · 17/04/2006 23:01

How many times a day do you have to change it? What do you do when using a public toilet and a disabled one isn't available (with the sink inside)? Is that why some women spend ages in the loo?

CarolinaMooncup · 18/04/2006 08:34

SL, you could prob carry it to the bathroom (maybe wrapped in loo roll) and wash it and reinsert it there?
