Hi, I seem to be losing hair not in handfuls when I pull it but I've noticed that there is long strands of hair in the shower plug every couple of days as i said it's not loads but I'm worried.. I do get my hair coloured every few months & my hair dresser hasn't mentioned any bald patches but I'm wondering if she would..
I have suffered with Health Anxiety & the last year has been terrible with one thing & another I am a worrier..
Does anybody else suffer with hair loss is it normal to have a small amount of loss I'm clearing the plug every other day .. I'm wondering if there is any certain foods I should be eating or is there a vitamin that I could take...

Have you recently stopped breast feeding by any chance? I found my extra pregnancy hair fell out at that point.

You may be anaemic? It's one of my symptoms. Also, some medication can cause it (one of my meds does, so I get a double-whammy!)

No ladies , I'm no bf or on medication, my hair doesn't look any different but it's definately falling out little by little... Maybe it's stress are there any vitamins I can take if I'm missing out on nutrients ?

Are you a few months post-natal?
Could you be iron deficient?
Or low in protein? Are you a vegetarian who lives on cheese and toast Wink?
Could your thyroid be over/underactive?

Humans sometimes moult and lose lots of hair at the same time, rather than gradually.

If in doubt, see your GP who might organise some blood tests. If they are all normal and you have a decent diet, it should all right itself. The fact that you do not have bald patches is Good News.
Your are unlikely to need vitamins but hair needs protein and iron.

Have you been ill lately OP? Many years ago, I had gastroenteritis for 3 weeks and barely ate during that time. A few months later my hair started to come out in the way you describe. I noticed it getting gradually thinner all over and had shoulder length hair at the time, so had it cut shorter, so it wasn't as noticeable at the ends.
GP did multiple blood tests which didn't really show anything. Just put it down to lack of nutrients over the period I had been ill, which took a while to show in my hair growth. The good news is, it did all grow back and thicken up again eventually.

I think the best way to look at it is that if we have a tendency to male-type beard growth, there's a probability, but not by any means a certainty, that we're more likely to have a tendency towards male-type balding patterns too. However, that doesn't mean it's a waste of effort trying to slow that down by ensuring we're not suffering from Vitamin D deficiency etc. Lavender and Rosemary are both natural oils which at a surface level counter testosterone concentrations in the scalp -- they have a slight estrogenic effect which counters our high levels of testosterone in the scalp.
