worth having flu jab in January?

Im sure I've read somewhere that the ideal time to have a flu jab is between September and early Nov.
My gp can only offer me an appt early Jan, then it takes up to 21 or so days for the effect to kick in. I'm wondering if it's worth it?

Im mildly (at times moderately) asthmatic, had very severe chest infection two years ago. This year I've had a virus where my lungs felt cold and painful, coughed a lot but it cleared up a few weeks ago...so I've had something.

There are many cases of pneumonia being reported around me here where we live...friends : both adults and kids.

So I'm a little anxious but wondering if I can get through this winter without the jab.

Thanks

Might be worth considering paying if any pharmacies (especially supermarket ones) have any left. They were advertising a few months ago and it was £10 or less depending where.

Thanks..Yes paying for it privately is an option..but we're at the end of Dec, I'm wondering if it's still an ideal time or too late in the day?
