It has been caught in the early stages (I was bitten in September)

Has anyone else had it. Have you recovered fully?

My FIL had it a few years ago, he didn't know about the bite but had flu like illness and developed the bulls eye (think that's what it's called) rash. He had a course of antibiotics and has had no problems since. Hope you make a swift recovery Smile

Wow! What symptoms do you have, mama?

mama2moo · 19/12/2012 20:53

Thats good, thanks lakeflypie.

I was bitten twice and the bites were huge. I then had Bells Palsy a few weeks ago. I feel about 98 some mornings and am v.tired all the time.

I have 2 weeks of anti biotics and then a re test. Hopefully because its been caught early I should be ok.

I am just watching Under Our Skin. Its a documentary film all about sufferers of it. Its amazing how badly it effects people and how common it is in the US.

Hi, what are your symptoms? Did you have to insist on a proper test for Lyme's or did the doctor puck up on it? Dd got a tick bite in Sept and seems to have been under the weather all this term. I took her to the doctor who did basic checks but no blood test and said she was fine and that it's really rare. I have been wondering whether take her back, but she can be a bit of a hypochondriac so it's hard to tell whether she's just moany or whether I should be taking it more seriously.

Lovemynailstoday · 19/12/2012 22:30

Yes, I have had it and I am fine. T'was a long time ago--caught it in the USA. I was pregnant and terrified of consequences. Doctor reassured me the bacteria would not cross placenta and treated me with antibiotics. My "baby" is now 17 and in perfect health. Early diagnosis and treatment is key.

I had it a few weeks ago.
I developed fluey symptoms and a bullseye rash about a week after a tick bite, spoke to the GP after a bit of googling.
I had 2 weeks of AB's. I would say in all it took me about 6 weeks to feel fully back to normal, the tiredness really dragged on!
Hope you're feeling better soon :)

Thanks all. I have been v.tired but put that down to Christmas stress!

Eglantyne - After watching a film about it last night you need to get her re tested. If it goes un treated it can cause awful things. Look up the film Under Our Skin. It follows people in America who mainly have cronic Lyme Disease. This is caused because no one believed they had it.

Luckily I googled it because I had Bells Palsy. It wasnt until the 2nd week of that that I remember my 2 bites. I asked for the test and they did it with some other tests. I think it must be expensive to test for because they grow something in your blood - Hence not wanting to test many??

It is so common in the US. Maybe more awareness is needed here in the UK now. I was bitten in my garage, in a town. Not near deer, countryside or water.

I had a bite after doing gardening - didn't see what bit me. We have no deer etc.
Then started to feel really ill tired fluey achey etc and then noticed the rash around the bite site.
I'm a bit of a House, ER Casualty frustrated doctor type so had seen it in a tv prog and knew what the rash meant so went to the docs.
She was sceptical as we don't live in a high risk area but agreed symptoms matched so gave me the recommended antibiotics and within a few days I felt 100%. Had blood test too but I think it was inconclusive.

I'm convinced I had it and having read up on Lymes disease since thdn am extremely grateful doctor gave me the appropriate treatment without the definitive diagnosis, as I'm sure I would be very ill by now.

Where were you when you were bittne? I knew someone who was doing a PhD on it 20 years ago, in UK deer population. She used to go catch the ticks & test whether they were carriers. So it's been around a while & well-recognised in UK by epidemiologists.

Good you identified it so early. You have the very best chances of full recovery with no after-effects. :)
