Possible Crohn's?

Hello I'm after some advice about my DH. I have posted about him before, here and www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1625627-Sensible-people-this-way-please here.

To recap, he is 36 and he is 36 and has a vague discomfort in his lower-right abdomen (had it for 18months-2 years), porridgy poo (once a day) and recently discovered weight loss. No blood in stool but twice in the last year he has had bright red blood on the paper. Cue mass anxiety from me, convinced that he has bowel cancer. He has seen his GP who has not indicated that he is worried. Felt no lump inside him. DH was sent for a blood test which was normal, apart from ever-so-slightly raised amylase (normal 0-70, his was 80). DH has been for a repeat blood test and we are awaiting results.

I am very anxious, I am no longer convinced it is bowel cancer but am having a slight wobble over pancreatic cancer as this also caused weight loss, however he has no pains in the upper quadrant or jaundice. His dad died of it two years ago, which was horrific. Amylase is made in the pancreas, which is why I am having alarm bells ringing about that. DH did mention his DF to the doc but the doc showed no concern.

Other conditions to cross my mind are crohn's and coeliac. I'm not sure if he was tested for coeliac as it wasn't mentioned on the blood test form but for all I know it could have another name for that! I have read about crohn's on wikipedia (I know!) and his symptoms do match. I know that Crohn's isn't diagnosed on blood tests alone, but should his blood result have shown inflammation? Does inflammation come and go in people with Crohn's and not on medication?

His doc hasn't indicated what DH could have wrong, however DH admitted yesterday that he didn't tell doc about the porridgy poo! Grr!

Sorry about this rambling tale, if anyone has any ideas please can they share?

Hi, my DH had a disease call ulcerative colitis, similar to Crohn's. UC affects just the colon, Crohn's can affect the whole of the digestive tract.

My DH symtoms during a flare, included and this is not pretty.. Major and unrelentless diarrhoea (around 20 times a day) loss of control (very embarrassing) blood, mucus, extreme pain and discomfort in the tummy area, weight loss, his breath smelt...he was too scared to leave the house. Thankfully he had his colon removed so he is better now.

The main thing really is that you cannot self diagnose you need to get him to the GP, and don't be fobbed off if you are not satisfied with the answers you get.
