I'm laid up in bed with flu like symptoms and nausea and have been unable to eat for 24hrs. My partner has been caring for our son on his own all day. I can't just seem to get on with things when I'm ill. I suffered from hyperemesis when pregnant and now the slightest hint of nausea sends me into a panic. I feel like it left me with some sort of PTSD. I know in ny head it's just a bug and will be gone soon. How do I get some perspective? I'm lying here crying and feeling really sorry for myself.

Ah you poor love

Do you think you may have some phobia from being sick so often?

It may be worth a chat with your GP and asking if you could be refered for some help? Or if you have access to private medical cover see if they can help.

CBT is often helpful with fears and phobias.

How do you feel panicky?

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 15/12/2012 17:37

I was a total sick phobic before. HG was my worst nightmare before getting pregnant and I thought at the time being sick so often had cured me of it! I don't mind being sick so much, it's the nausea that bothers me. I get all sweaty and heart thuds.

Ah you poor thing.

It does sound like a phobia of sorts.

No one likes the feeling of feeling sick, most people would rather be sick that feel sick iyswim!

Have you ever tried relaxation exercises? These can really help with "mild" fears (not saying you fear is mild and therefore not worth bothering with)

This is a good relaxation technique as to do it properly you need to concentrate on something other than feeling nauseous

Loosen your clothing, take off your shoes, and get comfortable. (Not relevent at the moment)
Take a few minutes to relax, breathing in and out in slow, deep breaths.
When you?re relaxed and ready to start, shift your attention to your right foot. Take a moment to focus on the way it feels.
Slowly tense the muscles in your right foot, squeezing as tightly as you can. Hold for a count of 10.
Relax your right foot. Focus on the tension flowing away and the way your foot feels as it becomes limp and loose.
Stay in this relaxed state for a moment, breathing deeply and slowly.
When you?re ready, shift your attention to your left foot. Follow the same sequence of muscle tension and release.
Move slowly up through your body, contracting and relaxing the muscle groups as you go.
It may take some practice at first, but try not to tense muscles other than those intended.

If you are left handed start with your left foot!

Would that help you think? if not there are lots of other relaxation techniques you just need to find one that works for you! Everyone is different there is NO right of wrong techniques, only what feels right to you! :-)

I'm not lovely (but it kind of you to say)

Its horrid feeling / being sick (i know I promise you) its even worse to feel panicy and fearful of something, so combine the two and it must be horrid.

Hope it helped.

Hope you feel better soon to.

mummywithnosleep · 16/12/2012 11:18

Hope you are feeling better today youvebeenoutbid?

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 16/12/2012 13:53

I still feel a bit rough but have eaten today. My partner has come down with it too and he's been in and out of the loo like a ping pong ball. Looks like I maybe got off lightly after all with my nausea! The only one that's well is my 16month old.. so far!
