Alternative contraception

I wondered if any of you out there had heard or tested any alternative types of birth control. I do not want to go back on the pill and I don't want anything with hormones in it. I am into alternative medicine generally so I would avoid any medicated product. Yes I can do temperature.... but don't have the energy. I can also do dates.... but that's probably when I'd be most interested in sex (just kidding....). My osteopath mentioned something about honey based coil???????????????

Pupuce, can you find out more about the honey coil - sounds interesting!

Inserting half a lemon was an old, old method of contraception, possibly dating back to Egyptian times. Cassanova's lovers used it, so I am told. As well as the physical barrier of the lemon itself, the acid in the lemon juice helped prevent fertilisation. Methods using a wad of muslin and vinegar worked in a similar way. All I can say is ouch!

Although, strictly speaking, this is not a non-medical method, Pupace, have you thought about using the throwaway contraceptive sponge? A lot softer than a diaphram.

Tigermoth, sorry I was being a littler cruder! Please excuse me. R.

Pupuce, when I read your message, I thought you meant dates as in fruit... it was only after I'd been through the whole thread that I realised you were talking about the calendar.

Sml, Tee Hee!! What a thought!

How about Persona? It's a little electric unit plus a pack of test sticks. You pee on the sticks on certain days during the cycle and the unit tells you whether you're safe to have sex or not. All in all you end up with around eight no-sex days a month. I really liked using it, it also tells you when you're ovulating which is interesting. Used properly it's as reliable as the pill. The only snag is that you can't use whilst breastfeeding and it's not cheap, the intial cost for the little computer is £65 and a month's supply of test sticks cost £10. Definetly worth it though, in my opinion. I got mine from Boots but I think other places like www.pharmacy2u.co.uk sell it, too.
