My friend is starting chemo tomorrow, and Im going to visit on Thursday.

What shall I take? Magazines? Food?

Will he be too ill for sweets etc?

Hes 25 by the way

Ooh how horrible for him - so young Sad

Hope he's going to be ok!

I have no experience but I wouldn't take food!
Just take yourself - that should be enough for him to cope with! Grin

Sad for your friend, esp at only 25!

I recently watched someone I know go through chemo and she was really exhausted after, so the mags sound a particularly good idea to me. She also felt very sick though so i'm not sure about the food but a few treats that would last until it passes would be appreciated too I'm sure.

He plays semi-pro rugby, they did a random drugs test, they found a hormone which led the doctor to find the cancer

Started off in his testicles and has now spread

Sad

My nan is having chemo at the moment and a couple of days after usually feels sick so I'd avoid food. Magazines are good. CD's? Ny nan appreciates a good book aswell.
Can't really advise much else as my nan is 70 and don't think your friend will be into knitting patterns!

bloody hell! and testicular cancer is very treatable if caught early - Sad

bubble99 · 10/04/2006 14:57

Chemo often causes a yucky taste in the mouth so maybe some sweets to suck?

welshboris · 10/04/2006 14:58

Mp3 player, really cheap now, full of feel good music.

Comfy lounge suit, it's always good to have plenty of changes in hospital.

Books.

Playing cards.

Poor guy Sad Friend had chemo last year abd felt really rough for several days, tired and barely ate, after each one so anythign to entertain while lying in bed be it a cd, dvd, magazine or for comfort would be good.

welshboris · 11/04/2006 18:03

Thanks again girls, all great ideas

He has an ipod and a portable dvd player, so I think the magazines and lots of TLC from me should be enough x
