Calpol when being sick?

Ds2 was up in the night being sick, he's now got a bit of a temperature (warmer than normal, but not shockingly high or anything) and completely flaked out on the sofa. He's got access to water and had a bit of dry toast this morning.

I'm not sure whether to give nurofen or calpol to bring the temp down a bit and to make him more comfortable. Gut feeling is that it might aggravate an already delicate tummy, so I'm sort of letting it run its course... is that the best thing to do, or should I be dosing him up?

I would give calpol, but not nurofen.

My DD had a stomach bug a little while ago couldn't keep anything down for a week. But anyway was advised to give calpol appartently according to the docs nurofen can upset the stomach if their not used to it.
Hope your Ds2 feels better soon.

That's helpful - I might give some calpol just before his nap to help him sleep better. Argh, although saying that ... I'm almost out of calpol - I assume medised is a no no with stomach bugs?

Calpol is adequate for just now, if you are having trouble with vomitting, you can get your GP to prescribe paracetamol supositories. they are avaliable from the chemist but they are expensive.
You can use nurofen if you are having problems controlling his temp. Children are less likely to be affected by the stomach irriation than adults, but as you say the tummy is already delicate.

you could rub calpol or nurofen if ness on his gums or let him suck it from your finger tip. their wee mouths can absorb it well from here.
