Dd 5mths suddenly vomitted copiously for about an hour last night (around 8 times), including a feed whilst on me - even had to change my knickers as it soaked through everything Shock. She was rooting and crying after first session and in my ignorance (1st timer) I gave in to her and gave her a boob. She proceeded to throw up everything till it seemed her insides were coming out. It was awful. Really distressing for her and terrifying for me as I have a major vom phobia. We saw the doc on call and ended up at A&E. She wasn't producing at that stage but was very pale and listless. Then after some dioralite and a short kip on daddy she was feeling much better and playing with her toes! She fed several times over night (bf) and though tired is pretty normal today. They couldn't tell us what it was but that it was 'probably viral' ie they had no idea and that covered a multitude of sins! She is teething at the moment and puts everything in her mouth. Anybody out there have experience of similar and is more wise than the docs? It was just very scary and I would love to know if there is anything I could do to avoid a repeat!

What an awful day!!
TBH though you dont want to completely prevent bugs they that. they are part of building up a health immune system. Basic hygiene rules with regards to milk and keep the floor clean but not sterile.
You can be more aware of what to do with a vomiting little one the next time. arm yourself with cooled boid water or clear fluids. Although breast milk would have been my fisrt chioce as it is soo easily digestable. offer 5-10 mls every 20 mins. little and often. and well done for coping so well with first vomit fest!!

How awful - hope she's feeling better xxx Like chapsmum as said just bf is the first choice. Just bf as much as possible - your dd will be getting the benefit of your immune system in the milk so this could help. Best wishes xxx

Thank you girls! My day just got worse. I fell down the stairs with dd in my arms two hours ago. Her head bumped several bannisters on the way down and she howled afterwards. Good sign I would have thought but she has a nasty egg on the side. I can still see her little head in front of me bouncing of the bannisters. It was just horrible. I have just put her back to bed and will keep close eye for next few hours. I have buggered my back too. Glad the weekend is nearly over really.

love my girls that sounds like a pretty nasy inj. Dont feel that a and e will judge you if you go back. Please go if you are worried. There are signs and symptoms of head inj of NHS 24 website.

One of the major ones you should seek help for is persistant vomiting, I know she is being sick anyway but do take he if she vomits again.
If she has any fluid coming from her nose or ears.
If she developse black eyes
Tickle her toes every so often to make sure she is rousable.
Give her a wee dose of calpol and one for your self youve had a hellish day!

She is fine for the moment chapsmum - hasn't vomitted since yesterday and is chuntering in her cot as I type. There is no fluid in her nose and her eyes are fine. She was giggling with her dad before I put her to bed. She has a bump above her ear but no other symptoms at all. If that changes I will be using my A&E season pass again quick sharp. I will be waking her all night! Well, every couple of hours anyway. But tbh she is feeding every two hours a little and often at the moment anyway to build up fluids from yesterday. Next year the 9th April will be cancelled. I've got a headache from crying so much....!Sad

I know the feeling both my dds vomiting with wanton abandon, some kind of crazy scary bug going round at the mo. things do get better eventually, don't worry she'll be fine xxSmile

Well after a night of her screaming every hour on the hour I took her to the GP this morning to check her out after the fall. She is fine - just perturbed by all the events of the weekend apparently so we are having a couple of quiet days. I feel completely drained by the last 48 hours and just pray for a good night tonight. Thank you for being so supportive yesterday chapsmum et al
