if i consume dairy I get a migraine so yes very possible

Chandra · 09/04/2006 00:40

I get it if I eat more than a chocolate bar in a single day. I have a friend who gets them if her food is "contaminated" with peppercorn, so yes, definitively could be an allergy.

jampots · 09/04/2006 00:41

chandra - i cant believe you've just admitted eating more than 1 chocolate bar in a day Grin

dolally · 09/04/2006 00:50

Have heard that migs can be triggered by choc etc but have you ever heard of migraines like instead of hayfever?. Apparently she suffers like this every spring... wakes up with headache which eventually passes around lunch time. But only in spring!!!

As an utter chocoholic I'm SOOOOO glad I don't suffer.

i would always recommend upping water intake - possibly slightly dehydrated

georginarf · 09/04/2006 00:53

hmm well I think migaines can be caused by histamine - I know I get them from red wine or port - they also make me sneeze, and I believe that's the histamine content. Could also be blocked/irritated sinuses triggering th eheadaches. SOunds entirely possible that it's something to do with hay fever though

Chandra · 09/04/2006 00:54

No, I don't, really Grin. A good migraine would get me off anything I like, not worth the pain. But if I have a chocolate bar in the morning and a chocolate cake at night sure I'll get into problems. Actually, I think I have not eaten a chocolate bar in years, they are totally banned at home as DS is allergic to various of the ingreedients Sad

Dollally, that's even worse. DH has that (his are cluster headaches) it happens in Spring and Autumn, he needs to have a corticoid injected once a year to prevent him getting them too often and to reduce the severity of the headache, alternatively he gets some tablets from the gp who cost about £30 each (yes £30 so treating a single episode may cost more than £100). The pain is so strong that a migraine is a simple headache in comparison.

dolally · 09/04/2006 01:04

wow chandra.

It seems the pain is really bad, she's been off work most mornings and sometimes all day for a couple of weeks now. And dh is giving me a headache with his grumbling about it.

If it is an environment allergy she can't do many things to avoid them, good thing is that they will be over soon.

gscrym · 09/04/2006 07:07

Caffeine and alcohol for mine. Yes, I know how crap it is. It might not be migrane but something related to hayfever or sinus problems.

Littlefish · 09/04/2006 08:55

Red wine Sad, chocolate Sad Sad and flourescent lights for me! Jampots is right as well - if I'm dehydrated I get one too.

She needs to see her GP for preventative migraine meds. They might not stop them but will probably reduce the severity.

There is some research into migraine having auto-immune links so it can be triggered like a severe allergy.
