Permanent "period" pain

Rwep · 02/12/2012 20:12

I've always suffered with very painful periods, although they eased for a few years after I had DCs. I basically get a niggle just before AF arrives and if I don't take painkillers then, the pain will get a grip and I'll be in agony for about 8 hours and uncomfortable for about another 24 hrs. If I do take the painkillers in time it's uncomfortable but manageable.

However, for the last 3 months, I've had that niggle all month (apart from the day it's much worse) It feels like I'm about to come on, or that I'm suffering, but have taken my pills.

Any ideas what could be up?

Maybe a cyst? I have had a few ovarian cysts and it feels a bit like what you're describing. Maybe go to the GP and referred for a scan to see what's going on.
You have my sympathies

Do you have any other ibs type symptoms? my ibs feels very much like period pain.

CabbageLeaves · 02/12/2012 22:20

I had this sort of aching heaviness when I had fibroids and adenomyosis. I also had an ovarian cyst at the time

PretzelTime · 02/12/2012 22:26

Please go to your GP and have it checked. Could be something serious with the ovaries.

Could be endometriosis - that's how I found out about mine. Pain came and went, then one day it came and stayed.

I had an ovarian cyst too but it turned out to be irrelevant. All totally benign and treatable, though.

Get well soon

Please go and see your GP. I have this, to a horrible level, and have PCOS, with another operation scheduled to look for endo.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 03/12/2012 08:28

The cause of very painful periods is often endometriosis.

Would see your GP asap and ask that person for a referral to a gynae for further evaluation. Many GPs are ignorant when it comes to endometriosis and do not often think of it as a cause let alone recognise it.

Thanks all. As it happens I have a doctor's appt for a sore shoulder (been with me 6m+) this morning. I'll be cheeky and mention it at the same time.

Awaywego, I don't think I have what you could call IBS symptoms, but I am aware that the discomfort is similar to what you might feel if you're a bit constipated, but I'm not Grin

A sore shoulder can be ovarian pain (referred)

Rwep · 03/12/2012 15:52

Noddy, really? or you having a bit of fun with me?

No really!

Rwep · 03/12/2012 16:14

Wish I'd never asked now! There was a mix up at the docs - they say my appt was for last Fri, which it can't have been, as Monday is my only day off....anyway, I'm now not going until next Monday. Must resist the urge to Google until then! The shoulder, I thought anyway, is muscular and hurts when I raise it to the side, but not in front - am astounded to learn the abdominal pain could be connected.
