I'm 31yrs old and I have Chicken Pox! It's bad! Covered my scalp, face, neck front, back and bits and bobs. In my mouth, throat and stomach. I can't stand it anymore I just want to die now please.

I'm taking paracetamal, ibruprofen, piriton and smearing myself in calaine cream and none of it is working! What else can I do? I'm having cool baths and have windows open so I don't get too hot and make the itching worse.

Please help me, I can't stand this any longer.

Benadryl lotion, better than calamine

Piriton syrup... fab for itching

Cool baths, pat don't rub.

LadyTophamHatt · 08/04/2006 13:44

bicarb in the bath dries the spots quicker.

Pfer · 08/04/2006 13:47

thank you. will try both.

Thinking of you! Hope it eases really soon.

anniebear · 08/04/2006 15:25

feel for you, I had it around the age of 21 and also had them everywere

Left me really tired for a few weeks after also

waterfalls · 08/04/2006 15:53

If you have it in areas where it can infect other areas or is rubbing, ie, inner thighs, you can bandage them, we were advised to do this for ds when he had a very bad case of cp, helps them dry up quicker too.

waterfalls · 08/04/2006 15:54

ds, not he

expatinscotland · 08/04/2006 15:56

if you start having difficulty breathing, GO TO HOSPITAL! my SIL's partner got them from his kids at the age of 38, and he wound up in hospital after the pox covered the inside and outside of his lungs.

Prufrock · 08/04/2006 15:56

Run bathwater through an old tights foot filled with porridge oats and tied over the tap. Take teh homeopathic remedy Rhus-Tox (available at Boots and most big chemists)

SaintGeorge · 08/04/2006 16:01

Zinc and caster oil cream. Messy but effective. Stop using calamine - it dries and then makes the itching worse.

thank you all.... am sending dh to boots as soon as it opens. this is awful, am so tired, can't sleep. my bits are the worst, guess that's because it warm and moist? Blush. got a pock right on my 'wee hole' as well as about 20 more in there....

also stomach hurts, especially when have had a drink. can breathe ok but chest feels a little sore. phoned docs on friday, couldn't get past receptionist who just said to see a pharmacist. useless.

Oh Pfer - poor you. I would see a doctor, if I were you and get checked out to see just how severe it is, and also see if they can dose you up appropriately to make it all a bit more bearable.

Does your GP do home visits?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/04/2006 09:35

Oh Pfer I sympathise Sad. I had it when is was 26 and it was awful. Iwas 26 weeks pregnant at the time and had an anti-body injection but it was still really bad. Really the only think that gave me any relief was being in the bath - I think I must have been in there for almost two weeks solid.

Agree about your chest - tell the GP's receptionist to bog off - cp in an adult can be serious and if your have any other symptoms you should speak to your doctor.

Hope you feel better soon.

SaintGeorge · 09/04/2006 11:35

Another vote for telling the receptionist where to go.

I have frequent CP bouts but my last severe bout like yours was when I was 30. My GP gave me anti-virals and they really helped.

Scream and shout for attention if you have to but get them to take notice.

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2006 13:41

How are you today pfer?

fuzzywuzzy · 10/04/2006 13:42

fuzzywuzzy · 10/04/2006 13:43

MamaG · 10/04/2006 13:43

Oh poor you - effing receptionists Angry

Hope it has eased a bit for you today

jambuttie · 10/04/2006 14:12

we covered our ds1 in talc when he had the poxy's and they dried out well quick

Pfer · 11/04/2006 11:49

Hi Ladies,'

Thanks for the suggestions etc. I sent DH out on Sunday to get me Rhus Tox and some cream. He got Eurax? It felt so cooling it was great.

He had yesterday off to help me with the kids but has had to go back in today (boo!). Am feeling much better, though itching is V. bad but controlable now. Still on Piriton/Paracetamol/Ibuprofen/Rhus Tox/Cool Baths etc but on the mend.

I look like the elephant man on a bad day at the moment but at least I can walk now - and I've lost 5lbs through not being able to eat! Fantastic! So there are some benefits to agony after all!

Think will complain about stupid receptionist. It's hardly good sense to advise someone who's contagious to go to open surgery to sit among ill people with low immune systems is it?
