My DH had a few crowns, and until the crown in on it does hurt.

It can take quite a while for a root canal to settle. I had a bit of pain after mine for a few months and it felt like there was something alien in my mouth for probably a year. It's finally settled now

I'd go back to the dentist for pain that wakes you up though. Any chance of a chat with the receptionist to see if you need to be seen if they are open today?

I had a root canal done starting just before dd was 1 Grin It took 13, yes 13 appointments before they'd got all the shit out.

Each time I went, the dentist would tap on the teeth either side, and I'd say that it hurt. Out would come the temporary filling, a bit more drilling and packing, temporary filling etc.

Finally came the time for the temporary crown and the fitting for the real one. Bastard charged me a fortune - had to be a private one, as I didn't want a metal one which was all that was available under the NHS. Still, I reckon I got my money's worth with the 13 appointments first!

So, go back and go back until you are pain-free. If all the infection has been removed, it shouldn't hurt. Otherwise you risk paying for a crown to be fitted over an infection which may then have to be removed.

and you really don't want that ,believe me .
