Night sweats

I've been having night sweats for around a year now. I didn't realise at first why I kept waking up feeling really dehydrated with terrible headaches - almost feeling hungover, but after waking up drenched in the middle of the night a few times I've realised it's due to losing so much water through sweating. I've switched to 100% cotton sheets and pyjamas but still have the problem.

I'm 26 years old, no DCs so not sure what's causing it. I'm going to see the doctor, but wondered if anyone else has had the same problem and also what kind of thing the doctor should suggest.

Thanks!

Are you having any other symptoms? an overactive thyroid can cause night sweats.

I have more of the symptoms of underactive thyroid - tiredness, gain weight easily, feel a bit foggy headed. I also have IBS, though I've had that for years, so generally feel a bit run down due to stomach issues.

When I had an overactive Thyroid in my 20s, I sweated loads during the day, but not at night. That happened years later in the menopause, and again when starting on a steroid medication, but that eventually wore off.
Can't think what yours is at 26, if not an overactive Thyroid Gland. Have it tested just in case.

Get yourself off to the docs without delay. Could be nothing or it could be something serious. Highly unlikely but might sweats are indicative of several different types of cancer. Probably not but needs ruling out.

I have an overactive thyroid and night sweats are and indication that my meds aren't right.

Overactive thyroid can cause fatigue and in a small percentage of people it can cause weight gain. It also has an affect on the bowel - frequency, urgency and loose stools.

I was diagnosed at 26, its fairly common to develop it in your 20's.

Your GP will probably test you anyway. Good luck OP Smile

Fluff

Are you taking Carbimazole?

fluffacloud · 27/11/2012 19:09

Hi digerd

Not at the moment as my levels dropped to underactive on a 5mg daily dose.

I have been taking it on and off for about 5 years. Mine settled after a year initially but then it went mad after the birth of DD1 and 2. As if having a newborn isn't hard enough! Grin
