IS it normal for my DD (nearly 7 months) to poo 3-4 times every day now that she has started solids (veg/fruit/lentils sometimes/cheese/weetabix with a bit of cows milk/chicken)????

DH took DD to see Dr today for something else and as part of the routine Qand A told Dr that DD poos this many times...........sometimes they are a little hard but most of the time they are soft - but not diorrhoea or anything. Anyway, DH has now come home with a can of pformula for lactose intolerant babies. DD has been bottlefed on normal formula since birth so I assume that if she was lactose intolerant or allergic to milk that it would probably have shown before now. I just assumed that lots of pooing was because she is eating lots of veg and fruit. When she was still on only formula she would only do 1 (max 2) per day.

What shall I do? I'm not keen to change her formula but then I don't know if I wouldbe making things worse or not. DOn't know if this is related but DD is currently suffering with nasty nappy rash - the first time ever. she has been on solids for almost two motnhs now.

I think it sounds perfectly normal. Ds is 2.5 yrs and depending on what he's eaten he can poo that many times too! I wouldn't change the formula unless there is a problem. At 7 months the nappy rash could be coz she's teething. HTH.

My ds3 sometimes used to poo up to 5 times a day. I think it was because his body was just getting used to new foods. I did think he may be lactose intolerant at one stage but g.p said that the skin around his anus would of been sore and irritated (which it wasn't).

thanks for your wisdom guys. I've heard that egg white can work miracles on nappy rash so might try that tomorrow after I've bought an egg LOL. DH is not into that idea at all (not something that people in this culture do - I'm not in the UK)

Sarahu - Can't you use Sudacreme or nappy rash cream of another variety? I found that just letting ds kick for a while each day nappyless helped loads.

sarahu · 07/01/2004 14:51

M2T I am using Sudacreme at the moment but doesn't seem to be making much difference yet.....tho' I think I may be using a bit too much will use less tomorrow. What about vaseline - will that be OK to use?

As I am in Asia I don't have a HV to ask and the doctors don't always inspire confidence (though i have to say that DD's doctor is great.....she trained in CHicago which actually inspires a little more confidence in me than the others do)

I don't think you can use too much of it. It certainly wouldn't make it worse. Perhaps her bottom just needs a good airing.

hi sarahu, my dd is 2 and she still does 2 - 3 poos a day, sometimes more ! it si perfectly normal and you really shouldn't worry about it.Can you get metanium cream where you are ? I find this is excellent for nappy rash.

sarahu · 07/01/2004 15:06

hmmm it has been really hot and humid here for the last few days - that could well be what started it.....though DH is convinced that it is the fault of TotsBots!! Stil her bottom has had plenty of air today so hopefully we'll start to notice a difference!
