Now it's reported in Scotland it's only a matter of time before it works it way south.

So will you take any precautions?

My mum and dad keep free range chickens, bantams and parakeets, should I carry on visiting with a 7month old ds?

Apparantly a swan has died in Scotland of it, they are testing to see if it's the strain which can kill humans. Something or other 51.

Was on the news this morning.

bubblerock · 06/04/2006 10:04

They haven't had it confirmed yet though.

bubblerock · 06/04/2006 10:05

It's on bbc news 24 atm

mazzystar · 06/04/2006 10:05

am not going to panic, but we live right on the waterfront, opposite a duck pond. and some of the ducks like it in our garden.

bubblerock · 06/04/2006 10:06

Bloody hell - they found this bird on 29th March and it's taken all this time!

mazzystar · 06/04/2006 10:06

that sounded wrong. we live next to a duckpond, a lake and then the prom for the sea. more birds than people round here.

acnebride · 06/04/2006 10:07

I wd get advice about visitors if I kept birds I must say (\link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/AboutUs/MinistersAndDepartmentLeaders/ChiefMedicalOfficer/Features/FeaturesArticle/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4102997&chk=OcYuEL\doh guidance here}) but otherwise TBH I'm not worried AT ALL.

jmum6 · 06/04/2006 10:07

Next door races pigeons and they're always in out garden.

Should we panic?

kidstrack2 · 06/04/2006 10:11

wouldn't panic too much, if you were in direct contact with the birds i.e working with them and handling them, then yes stay away, but its not airbourne or anything, the chances of a personal coup of birds getting the strain is highly unlikely, its more the wild birds flying in from other countries. If for example a wild goose/swan had contact with a farmers coup then it would be more serious and then it would spread, they are hoping the strain doesn't mutate and start spreading human to human, that would be serious, i for one am not going to panic at the moment and i will still be visiting my local ducks/swans and farm park!

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 06/04/2006 10:12

DOES NO ONE CARE THAT A PIGEON TOUCHED MY FOOT

ok ok I should take this seriously,

but hey...what will be will be and all that, we can't do much about it can we.

Spacecadet · 06/04/2006 10:13

cripes..dont think i will be going to the river to see the ducks again.

my mother feeds wildbirds, her garden is a bird sanctuary, she might as well have a sign up saying, bird flu welcome here.

sorry fastasleep - immediately chop off your foot and seal it in a plastic bag with a fancy tie! Put it in the freezer and call the RSPCA Grin

kidstrack2 · 06/04/2006 10:14

i have no chance of getting away from birds anyway, i live near the sea, the river is nearby me too with swans and ducks.
