When do I start brushing DS's teeth?

Hi there, DS is 6.5 months and has two teeth coming out on his bottom gum. He's been weaning for around a month now. You can def see the two teeth coming through (and he's teething madly!) so do I have to start brushing them now - and if so how? Do I need to get a special brush or toothpaste? Thanks!

Yes, you do. Once they have teeth they can have decay.

You can get baby brushes and toothpastes.

Hi, the advice given is to brush them as soon as they are there. Brushing my DD3's teeth is easy as she has two big sister's to copy. You can get special toothbrushes, ones that go on your finger etc but I just use a first toothbrush from a reputable manufacturer of kids' brushes. I put a tiny smear of kids milk teeth paste on and she copies here sisters. Then I try and give them a quick brush too! Good luck.

Yes I have always cleaned my kid's teeth from when they came through. I just use a kid's toothbrush and whatever toothpaste.

I brushed mine before he got teeth at all..

now before you all jump on me and hit me with the silly stick...

He was 15 months before he got a tooth, and I was trying to encourage the little things to come out by scrubbing at his gums!!! Blush Plus he was going to have tantrums galore if I suddenly started cleaning his teeth at the wonderful age that is 15 months....

Fastasleep I done the same thing with DDs1&2. They didn't get teeth til around 13m and I wanted brushing to be a part of their routine already, plus hoping brushing might encourage the little bliters to come through!

Fastaslepp - I did the same too, with one of thos silicon brushes that fit on your finger. DD got her first tooth at 13 months.

Well we were the opposite way with DS having teeth at 4 months and DD at 5 months. However I have been giving DS's wobbly tooth a good going over with the toothbrush in the hope of getting it to fall out - the new one is growing behind but that one is clinging on.
