Wrist arthroscopy to remove torn cartilage

I broke my hand earlier this year and tore cartilage in my wrist and am waiting for a wrist arthroscopy to remove the torn cartilage. Has anyone had this done? Was there an improvement afterwards? How long was the recovery time? Any advice please?

I had an arthroscopy last year to tidy up cartilage which had eroded in my wrist due to hypermobility.
Are you in a splint at the moment and how much use do you have - or are you at the "everything hurts but I carry on anyway" stage?
Mine was steadily deteriorating and I had a series of steriod injections and 2 years in a splint first.
The operation did help, but it took a long time to take effect - probably 6 months to feel the full benefit which was a bit depressing.
Mine is poss slightly different as it will likely deteriorate again unless I'm very careful.
Hope that helps - feel free to ask anything else before I bore you to tears!

Thanks for your reply, I'm not in a splint now and I can use my hand but not for too long at anything, so I think my real concern is that I could end up worse off than I am now.

It is upsetting not to be able to do anything for too long.
Obviously ask your consultant, but with mine, I had keyhole surgery, it hurt for a few days and was sore for a bit longer but the scars are tiny (which i didn't really care about bythat point anyway!).
i guess it felt the same after the actual operation pain wore off, and very gradually improved over the next few months - I can do loads more than before so it was well worth it for me.
I had several pre-op MRI scans, I assume you have had these as well?
It wasn't a miracle cure, but really improved my quality of life.
Have they said it may make it worse?

Thank you, that makes me feel better about it. I have had MRI and am having keyhole surgery. The consultant ran through a whole long list of possible complications which made me panic but I guess they're not likely or he wouldn't be suggesting doing it.
