Yesterday i went swimming for the first time Blush i know at the grand old age of 23 i still can't swim BlushBlush but when i was swimming i think i got a little carried away with the kicking of the legs, and the tendon (or whatever it is) behind my knee popped Shock i left it for a while and tried again, but the same thing happened. This morning i woke up after a very uncomfortable night and the pain is awful Sad i can't bend my knee, although walking on it isn't too bad. When i do bend it for example walking down the stairs it makes a strange grinding sound?????? Does anyone know anything about this? Should i go and see someone or am i just being silly, and have simply overexerted myself? greatful for any advice Smile

pepperpots · 05/04/2006 13:52

pepperpots · 05/04/2006 14:05

I think it warrants a gp visit,I know it's not life threatening but it may need an xray.

Nhs direct?

pepperpots · 05/04/2006 14:08

Thats what i was thinking but then the logical side of me says if i walk into a&e they are going to take one look and say "well if you can walk it obviously can't be that bad!" Blush

What about a sports physio, you'd have to pay for it though.Probably about £40.

pepperpots · 05/04/2006 14:12

Have you got a drop in clinic near you. We have one in the local cottage hopsital. Or phone NHS direct they can refer you to a doc - will fax ahead so they are expecting you!

pepperpots · 05/04/2006 14:54

this exact same thing happened to me once!!
dont ask what I was doing but felt my knee pop and then the next moring could not bend it but could put weight on it. I was a student at the time and went to a and e. they X rayed it and gave me a course of ibuprofen, I was referred to the fracture clinic. they checked it a week later to make sure the movement had come back.
Sometimes what can happen is a lose bit of cartilidge can cause your knee to lock, sometimes it is just a sudden jerky movment. However if you have ongoing problems or do not regain any movement in the knee despite rest and brufen you need to see an orthopedic surgeon.

TBH if your still haveing problems I would consider going to a and e for an X ray.
