When did you encourage your DD's to use tampons ?

How easy was it for them to find the right hole ?

Sorry .... but rather concerned .... thanks

dd started at 13 and was probabaly about 15 before she started using tampons

Would certainly let them settledown and get into the routine of changing before I encouraged tampon use.

No idea about finding the right hole - never asked - but she must have got it right!! Grin

starlover · 04/04/2006 21:40

i'd let her use towels until she feels she wants to use them

red37 · 04/04/2006 21:44

dd has not started as yet, but I have bought her sanitary towels for her bottom drawer.

Tampons she has asked about, but I told her to wait until she has started her periods

The right hole??????
How many options have we got?
I mean the other one's fairly job-specific, isn't it?!

dd was 13 when she started and was keen to start using tampons straight away. I was, however, a little concerned that she should get to grips with towels first and get used to actually having periods before going on to use tampons. She was insistent and used them from her 2nd period onwards. She had to fiddle about a bit at first but has now used them for over a year without any problems at all.

I would say that if she wants to have a go, then let her try them.

Crystaltips · 04/04/2006 21:51

She said that she was embarrrassed about towels as she does not want to stop swimming ....she does this a fair bit

Oh, would add that she started with Tampax Minis (the purple ones) but now she is used to them, she uses the yellow regular ones.

Crystaltips · 04/04/2006 21:52

thanks moono ... THAT'S the reassurance I was looking for Blush

My DD is 15, started at 14 & I have bought her tampons but she is not ready to try them yet.

I remember discussing them with friends when we were in 6th form & only just trying them out.

moono · 04/04/2006 21:58

crystaltips - is your dd keen to use them? Buy a packet of minis maybe and make sure she reads the instruction leaflet thoroughly. If she is very sporty and particularly likes swimming then she may well take to them very easily.

PinkTulips · 04/04/2006 22:20

don't have a teenager but i was one pretty recently. i'd been having my periods for about a year before my mom asked if i wanted to try tampons for sports and stuff (less risk of embarressing incidents IYKWIM)

went through about half the box before i managed to get it in, no problem finding the right hole, angles were unexpected though, plus i tensed up and couldn't fit it! the diagrams on the leaflet in the box are pretty helpful though and talk it through with her first, embarressing but i wish my mom had.

expatinscotland · 04/04/2006 22:24

i used them from day 1 b/c i was studying ballet nearly every day then.

brimfull · 04/04/2006 22:34

My dd is 14 and started her period about a yr ago.She doesn't feel ready for tampons yet,so every one is different.

Have to laugh, when I was a lass,my mum said I had to wait until I was married before I was allowed to wear a tampon Shock
