We accidently hit our 14 week old ds's head on the light shade while lifting out of the bath! he has grazed his soft spot. he only cried a wee bit and it didn't bleed very much. he took his bottle as normal and is now fast asleep. I just want to know he will be alright!!

I think if you want some constuctive re-assurance you should phone NHS 24. It is very very difficult to assess tiy babies.
little ones can be so tough but if your worried ive them a we call for some re-assurance.
am sure he will be fine, keep tickling his feet to make sure he is rousable and if in doubt get im checked out. bet ya you got a bigger fright?

Sparklemagic · 03/04/2006 23:00

Pandi, it doesn't sound like a very big impact and only resulted in a graze so I'm sure it will be fine.

Perhaps some cleverer than me MNer will be able to tell you more about bumps to the soft spot area. But from what you say, it sounds a minor bump.

I take it DS wasn't drowsy or unusually grumpy or different afterwards - you say he took his bottle as normal so I guess not?

Hope others will be able to re-assure you as well, but I say really don't worry. Just check on Ds as I'm sure you normally would anyway. If his temperature and breathing are all as normal this should re-assure you!!

oh, and change the lightshade to a shorter style!

poor you!! ITs horrid isnt it and I am afraid it onlygets worse, although they do get tougher. The chap has taken to head diving (deliberately) off the couch, MY niec also thought t would be fun to teach him how to climb up stairs. Will the worry ever stop???
sparklymagic, that is far better advice than mine about the lamp shade, lol.

pandi52 · 03/04/2006 23:10

i don't know how the h**l i'd cope if he was seriously ill, totally useless and panicky.
btw the lampshade has been removed!!!

seriously it gets easier as they get older. I remeber when the chap was 2 weeks old he had a temp and then I discovered a lump on his chst. Totally panicked and turn up to a and e (no the one I work in) only for them to tell me he has breasts from my breast milk hormones. felt like a right fanny!!!
bottom line is hospital was fab, think part of their job is re-assurance just as much as treating the bub!

expatinscotland · 03/04/2006 23:17

arrgh. poor thing!

ring NHS24 and keep us posted.

this is part about having kids no one tells you about - that you spend a lot of time w/your heart in your throat.

my 16 week old is sneezing and coughing w/these damn weather fluctuations and it's just doing my nut w/worry!

ShaysMummy · 03/04/2006 23:30

the soft spot is a very tough membrane so i think he will be fine, especially if he didnt cry much.
agree with whats been posted about the phoneline. give them a ring, for reasurance only im sure.
