Haematology referral

I have been referred to the above as my white blood cells are low (medication related) what will happen at the appointment - anyone know?

You will probably have a further blood test and see a consultant and they will take down your medical history. Take a list of your medicines with you. As you know why they are low it will have to be decided if it is doing you any harm. Do you get lots of infections etc?

Unless it is causing problems they will probably not do anything about it but may continue to monitor it. If you are having trouble with infections they may need to look at changing you meds or if that's not possible giving white cell boosting injections. We have many patients with low white cells for many reasons and few of them require any treatment.

thank you that's helpful I didn't know about booster injections. No, well at the minute so may be a watching brief exercise

They will probably repeat it and possibly stop the offending medication or reduce the dose. If you have fevers or shakes you should seek med attention in the meantime.
They may look for other causes.. would have thought your GP or specialist would be able to manage if related to meds.. What are you on ?
