MMR appointment for dd tomorrow, gulp.

Have decided to drag my head out of the sand and have confirmed dd's appointment for her MMR tomorrow. Cancelled first one as she had a cold.

Have driven myself mad with articles and research on this subject and have changed my mind soooooo many times but have made my decision.

Not sure why I am sharing this but most people seem to post on not having the MMR and I thought another view was needed.

I know how you feel oliveoil. I read lots of research too and decided that MMR would be best for dd, but still had a minor panic in the surgery.

I suppose it's because even though with most children the risk of not giving MMR is greater than the small risk associated with MMR, my natural intuition tells me that not doing anything is always the smaller risk. Do you see what I mean?

Anyway dd had her MMR in Spain and I commented to the nurse that I was feeling a little odd because of the controversy about MMR in the UK (I would have said hoo-ha but I don't know the Spanish for that! ). He said "what controversy?" which nearly made me fall off the chair. It made me feel better though.

I know. My head says it's fine, my paranoid mummy heart worries too much. Will probably join you in having a panic in the surgery .

Same here in Denmark - absolutely not an issue. Although, interestingly it is perfectly possible to request separate vaccines if you want.

Good luck Oliveoil. DD had her MMR when she was 13 months. She is now 21 months and is a bright, alert happy little toddler. It is such a hard decision but I am sure she will be just fine.

handlemecarefully · 05/01/2004 15:56

Good luck Oliveoil - I am sure it will be fine, but I empathise and understand your worries. I felt the same just before dd's MMR

lazyeye · 05/01/2004 15:56

Me too Oliveoil for my ds2 who is about 16mnths - also cancelled first one for fear and he also had cold.

Was slightly heartened by visit from a scientist/genetist (sp?) friend who has a daughter and she said she had read the MMR/autism paper and didn't think much of it from a purely scientific view - his research is not good nor his samples etc.

Ah well, best of luck

Oliveoil well done for making this decision for your dd. My ds is allergic to egg, and had terrible eczema from 4 months to 2 years, but he had MMR and is fine. (well more than fine but then i'm biased :0)
i changed my mind a million times as well, and am the world's worst pessimist / worryer but i still came to the conclusion that he should have it.xx

After long and hard deliberations we went ahead with the MMR for my 14 month old son. In the surgery I said to the nurse 'Oooh, I'm not looking forward to this at all' and she said, 'Well, do you still want to go ahead?'. I thought - 'noooooo, don't make me choose now after I've agonised for so long'!!.

As it turns out, ds has been absolutely fine with no after effects.

Hope all goes well for you too, Oliveoil.

All went well at the docs, dd screamed blue murder but stopped instantly when offered a sticker from the (very nice) nurse. Held it aloft all round Asda - as if she was proud or something, looked hilarious.

She was fine all day and whinged a bit at bedtime but I think that is a new phase of hers anyway.

So, so far all ok. Doc said she may get rash/reaction in 7-10 days.

I am so relieved that I don't have to read any more on MMR, what is done is done, hard decision though it may have been, it needed to be made.

Good luck to anyone else, whatever you decide.

Glad all went well Oliveoil - dd2 had her MMR yesterday too, which I was not looking forward to. Fortunately she forgave me as soon as I gave her a rice cake, but the poor (lovely) nurse got some really "deep and meaningful" looks from dd2!
