ok, before we start, please excuse my poor taste in namechange.

I take medication that 'slows me down' so not going to the toilet for 3-5 days is quite normal. When I do, it hurts, I have anal fissure(s) i suspect, but not diagnosed.

Anyway, I was sick earlier in the week. I went to the toilet on friday after about 6 days without going. I did not go again until yesterday, a really small amount, after eating some prunes. Not as much as there should be, not by a long shot so I know I am not 'empty'.

I took some movicol (version of, can't remember the name of it) last night, and nothing.

For the last couple of days, well, to be honest since I vomited for a few days earlier in the week I have felt sick, and today in particular I feel very nauseous. I am not eating much as I am have no appetite and hate this constant feeling like I am going to throw up, I guess it is because I am so blocked up.

Any advice? I feel a bit unwell now. Can it cause me harm to not go for so long, with it all stuck in there?

If you recognise me in my wonderful disguise, please don't out me, it's an embarrassing enough topic as it is. Thanks Grin

I just googled to see if this horrendous feeling with laxatives is normal, did not type in the brand name, and lo and behold two website immediately came up with lots and lots horrific reviews for this particular brand, including one person saying that briefly wished they would die to stop the pain! one reported the 'pros' as 'i am not dead' and the horrific experience appears to be had by most people who took it and who reviewed it at least!

It felt like I was being poisoned for a while. but, well, it's over with. so that is good.

OH took an over the counter laxative last year and he thought he had appendicitis because the pain was so bad.

I hope you feel better soon.

Apparently prune juice works wonders.

Hi, sorry your feeling so rough. Unfortunately I get that reaction to laxatives etc too.
Of course being constipated for a long time is very painful, then add in the mix of daily laxatives and other things, it does cause a lot of abdominal pain and cramps.
The new drug I was put on a while back, prucalopride, has given me the worst pain and side effects than any other laxatives.
I've now stopped it because I'm pregnant. It was ment to be take every day but I just couldn't cope with the side effects leaving me bed bound and was impossible having a toddler. I couldn't even lye on the sofa.

After nearly 60 days of no bowel movement at all, it was so so so painful! Even the weeks before I went, the amount of pain, cramps, vomiting etc is horrendous.
Some medical professionals can't even believe that this length of time is possible. But it is! It happened to me. And my continence nurse knows a couple of people who haven't gone for a minimum of 2 months often.
I'm worried as I'm pregnant, the amount of laxatives etc and cramping that it will bring on labour.
When I used the peristeen in pregnancy I thought I was going into labour about 21 weeks. I never used it again with my first pregnancy and I'm not using it during this pregnancy either.

I have done everything diet related etc.
Mine font work primarily due to nerve damage as the under lying cause. Of course strong med side effects and long term use of laxatives has made it even more sluggish.

I hope you get to go soon.
Have you tried more movicle (or laxido)?
When I'm impacted I take 8 in four hours. But have to catch it early (for me my 2 week limit before it carries on for weeks, and won't be able to keep it down).

Unfortunately have to grin and bear the pain, or I can't poo and will mean even more serious pain.

When did you have prunes? Don't work for me. But as digestive sluggish it can take a few days to kick in.
Try some 100% pure Copella apple juice.

Before my spinal injury etc when I was a teenager I would drink that and made me go.

Reenypip · 11/11/2012 21:37

Liquid diet too ! No solids. Soup, yogurt, probiotic drinks, smoothies.

ImScaredShitless · 11/11/2012 21:41

reeny I 'went' in the early hours of this morning, after a very long time of feeling like I was going to die. I swear I did for a short while no joking. the world seemed very bleak and I was very worried it would be an embarrassing end!

I had prune juice etc on morning.

How horrible for you Sad that is so awful to have to have the piristeen etc regularly to help avoid a long haul of it.

How is your pg going? apart from this horrible problem?

that has been my diet today, DH bought me a lovely innocent smoothie, had an apple, some blueberries, some yoghurt, lots of water (sipped)

Mmmm the fruit and smoothie sounds so refreshing.

I'm glad you went. Did you feel like you were gonna pass out? It's a horrible feeling. On top of the pain, shaking, hot sweaty, then shivering, feel like or do vomit, etc.
Did you get some blood too?
I usually do on every bowel movement now :-(

I hope it eases and you are able to go back to what is regular for you.
Definitely consider a GP referral to continence nurse just so you can put a plan in place for the future.

I admit the pregnancy is difficult alongside health problems. Especially the amount of rest I need I can't get because of having a little toddler. The pain is difficult too. I have to take my meds including pain meds, but have to find a medium in how much i take while coping with side effects too. I ideally need a lot more than I'm taking, but I would be too out of it (I feel like anyway, but I mean not able to speak or keep eyes open), to look after my boy safely. And of course limiting for bump too.
I'm very grateful that my partner's parents had my boy yesterday so I could sleep.

ImScaredShitless · 11/11/2012 22:26

yes I did think I was going to pass out, I lost some vision it all went weird, it felt like I needed to throw up as well as go the other end, but even then it did not feel like I needed to go for over an hour, my arms and legs had pins and needles, I lost all colour. I have run 5 miles in 33 mins with less sweat than there was at that time, but I also felt cold, very cold, and also hot. I never ever want to feel like that again. I don;t know if there was blood as, sorry for tmi, it was not solid so would not have been able to tell. But, there was some this evening. I have had some before due to constipation and seems to be common.

I am going to see gp tomorrow for proper action plan for the future and will talk about continency nurse. But I will also try to stop the meds. I say that knowing that is not an option for you and it makes me realise my pain levels are nothing compared to yours Sad
