GA question

When I had an operation a year or so ago for a bladder prolapse, I had to lie on my side before they put me to sleep. The operation was performed vaginally so I have always wondered why they did this. Does anyone know?

Are you sure it was a GA? Midazolan (?sp) causes short term memory loss.

I had it for an endoscopy and I don't remmebr a thing (appart from being in room full of people farting loudly afterwards)

The only thing I can think of is that they did sedation and LMA rather than GA and intubation, and for some reason felt that the LMA would go in more easily in that position, presumably something to do with your anatomy. However, I would have expected them to put you on your left - are you quite sure it was your right?

I forgot to say that you certainly can't intubate someone on their side (well, not that I've ever come across), but you could potentially get an
LMA in that way, although it isn't the usual way to do it.

They did ask me if i wanted the op done with spinal and sedation and i said no as i have had 2 previous epidurals that did not work properly.

And I have thought really hard about it and I think it was my left side. Id be no good as a witness to a crime, would I!
