After research I have found out that my dd 4months old doesnot have 'flat head syndrome', But it may be 'craniosynostosis'. This happens during foetal growth as the brain grows owing to various factors. In my dd'd case her ears are not alligned with a slight ridge on the same side on her forehead. I am making big assumptions here as we haven't seen the GP But any advice would be be very helpful and stop me from thinking the worse ! a BIG thnak you in advance.

thank you Maryz, yes the US sites were horrific, by 3.00am (this morning) I had gathered enough info to realise that it wasn't as bad as I thought. I think my dd has the plagiocephaly disorder . when I told me girlie friends this afternoon they didn't think it was noticeable. THANK YOU THANK YOU for yur kind words. I have baby clinic tomorrow so I will lt you know what me health visitor says. she was a bit dismissive when I told her last month. Have a good eveningx

i don't know whether this hlps or not
my ds - now 17 months - spent several weeks in special care and had to lie flat for as much of the time as possible
one side of his head is slightly flatter than the other as he turned his head one way by preferance
he is an intelligent, lively and wonderful little boy whose hair covers up the slight flattening
i was paranoid about it for a while but ou don't notice it
it hasn;t affected anything else about him at all
once i started looking at other children, there are so mnay children with slighty flattened heads as a result of the 'cot death' guidance
If i have got the total wrong end of this thread, then I apologise
but I wanted to post this positive message to you
was this from birth or did it happen in the weeks/months afterwards?

fft · 04/01/2004 22:04

dear popsycal THANK YOOOOOOU for your kind words, any info, advice is useful. I actually noticed it afterwards say abut 6 weeks then at her 12 week check I told th healthvistor. In my area they measure babies heads at every visit, now I know why. she told me that dd's head was developing fun and that it will sort itself out. Now it is just more prominent, well on one side of her face and when you look form the back you can really see the flattened side. I will keep you posted and maybe do a diary as things progress. have a good evening x

I don't even thikn of it now....his face is normal and always was
it is just slightly flattened on one side
I spent months worrying - his baby hair fell out and it looked more noticeable
now he has curls and you cant tell!!
a friend of dh has a VERY flat head - he is now 30 - as he had 'clicky hips' when a baby and spent 3 months lying n his back
It is usually a symptom of lying on their backs
But do get it checked out if you are worred
I mentioned it to our HV several times even though it was minor and she saidthat it was a result of lying on his back
look at other children and you will see...

popsycal · 04/01/2004 22:10

ps - if you are worried - contact me via mumsnet and i will send you a photo of ds to prove he is 'normal'!!

am i wrong to not be worried about ds???

fft · 04/01/2004 22:52

dear maryz , yes my dd has a slight ridge on her right side an her face is slight wider on this side, from all the research I have done in the last 24hrs it seems to me she has the second most common disorder...'this occurs with one coronal suture fused (the suture that goes from left to right, just behind the hairline) - plagiocephaly. I will point this to my GP, as she is growing it is more prominent. I know it isn't form lying on her back bcasue my two older daughters had flat heads whivh righted itself by the time they were 12months. popsycal form what you've told me isn't your ds just doing fine?

yes fft - he is just great....
i panicked like mad from hm being about 10 weeks to about 6 months then just forgot about it as it is hardly noticeable and he is bright and wonderful...it doesn't take much, however, to et me worrying!
i hope that your dd is ok fft!

fft · 04/01/2004 23:02
