Has anyone else had this pain?

I have always had heavy painful periods but since birth of dd2 (3 years ago) they have been steadily getting worse. The last few months i have vomited, passed out and fallen to the floor where my legs have gone numb with the pain too. It is almost too painful to walk for the 1st day. They are hideously heavy and very draining. I am not due on for another 2 1/2 weeks yet all today have been having bloated painful period pain type feeling and a terrible low down ache. Does anyone else have this? I look about 5 months pregnant!!!

To both of you,

I have had such pains - the underlying cause of same was endometriosis.

Please therefore see your GPs with a view to getting a referral to a gynae as a matter of urgency.

Heavy painful periods can have a number of causes - two main ones are endometriosis (which can cause lots of pain) and fibroids (these can cause heavy bleeding). You can also become anaemic as a result of either condition.

You both need medical attention asap. Do not be fobbed off by the GP!!. Many are surprisingly ignorant of gynae problems.

I have made a GP appointment, would have done so ages ago but kind of feel "where do i start" when you're sat there with a male doctor and 5 mins to chat!!! Been taking painkillers all day but pain is not getting better. Had thought about endimetrious (however you spell it) as other family members have it.

i have been having really bad pain as u discriped it since i was 13. the vomiting was pretty bad, i would retch till i thought my insides would come out. never thought about it, to be honest, just stayed in bed the first day, rarely the second day tho. i never knew about endo... however, it has become sooooooo much better when i had dd1, well, i can walk about, don't vomit (not normally now). just had dd2, so hope that it doesn't return.

Marshmallow,

Please see your Doc asap and ask to be referred to a gynae. Endo is outside many GPs remit of understanding (there are also many ignorant GPs out there when it comes to endo).

There seems to be a family link to endo. This may be genetic, although some researchers believe that family predisposition is not necessarily due to genetic inheritance. It could be environmental e.g diet or smoking. Studies show that endo is present in 7 to 10 percent of first degree female relatives (mother, sister, daughter) of an affected woman, and 2 percent of second degree female relatives (grandmother, aunt, cousin). Women with an affected first degree relative are also more likely to have a more severe version of the disease. The pattern of inheritance seems to be passed on through the mother's family rather than the fathers.

Don't be fobbed off - it is in your interests to seek answers.

Ninaar

I have had period problems since I was 14 on starting menstruation. I had severe pains leading up to and during my period. It was so bad at times I used to curl up on the floor in agony along with wanting to be sick. I was finally diagnosed at age 31 with endometriosis. Why the delay - well no-one suggested this as a possible cause.

If your symptoms do come back I would ask for a referral to a gynae for further evaluation and don't take no for an answer!!. You may well get your symptoms back over time.

It definately sounds like endometriosis. I suffered like you wouldn't believe since I was about 13 years old, curled up in agony, vomiting, pains in legs etc. I was diagnosed with endo 3 years ago (aged 32) after battling with my GP for years, she just thought it was "painful periods". Anyway, I've had 2 laparoscopies, cysts removed etc and tried various remedies. You need to get yourself seen by a gynaecologist asap and get the ball rolling as speaking from experience, the longer its left untreated the worse it can get and it can also cause fertility problems ( I dont know if you were planning more children but I never managed to conceive again after my only DD birth and now I know why). Mine got worse after having my dd 11 years ago. Its interesting to read about the possible family link to endometriosis. Mine is a mystery though as nobody in family has ever suffered with any type of period problems! I just hope that my poor daughter doesn't inherit the condition from me. Get yourself seen hun asap.
